Worth adding to your music collection of old school songs.
Music man
True groove was always an underground phenomenon, the domain of the pirate radio stations and the clubs in the know, and most of those were in the ethnic suburbs!
S. Akos
Skyy was no joke, and they had quite a few jams from 1979 to 1992, but the various compilations (including THIS 'Greatest Hits' CD) don't cover all the bases.

THE SONG WITH THE VERSE "DON'T BE AFRAID.........". THE SONG IS CALLED REAL LOVE AND IT WAS ON THE 1989 ALBUM THATS NO LONGER IN PRINT, BUT YOU CAN GET THE SONG ON THE SMOOTH GROOVES VOL.9 CD OR THE BODY AND SOUL (SWEET EMBRACE) CD.

I am presently reconstructing my vintage vinyl collection electronically :)).
After too many Rhythm&Beat sessions, my new name for today's R&B,
I came to the conclusion it is time to supply the weekend parties with some
tunes that actually contain proper melody lines and bass lines that pump funk.
Where I am located at the moment (Budapest-Vienna-Milano) the situation is pretty grim,
a lot of House and other things I can't classify because they exceed the frontiers of
my musical knowledge. Suffice it to say all computerized and not a bass player or
saxophonist in sight. But out here music seems to be a secondary consideration.
What counts most is what you see on the dancefloor, not what you hear :)).

It is a massive project getting everything on CD/Laptop but if you were grooving
on the dancefloors of London like I was back in the seventies and eighties then you don't
need me to tell you there is no way around New York Skyy. The Skyy classics are all
here in their proper full-length versions: Call Me, Here's to you, Let's Celebrate, Show me the way.
No remixes, just the way the funk doctor ordered. Essential groove for soul brothers and soul sisters.

Warning: After listening to this album again you will ending up feeling sad for the under-30s
and continually be asking yourself the question, how did we get to, to where we are today
musically (summer 2009)? What are todays R&B djs listening to nowadays? MTV? Did we listen
to MTV back then - definietly not!!! MTV just hypes the higgest bidder. Nothing has changed
since then either. True groove was always an underground phenomenon, the domain of the pirate
radio stations and the clubs in the know, and most of those were in the ethnic suburbs!

Skyy is one of the best groups from the 80s. I still love "Call Me" that song is the cut! I love the breakdown. You can groove out to that song. Skyy shouldn't be forgotten, they had talent!

I knew this title would get at cha !! Seriously folks Skyy was and still is one of the most underated band of it's era. The live shows were phenominal, to say the least. Like Midnight Star they could rock the house with smooth dance grooves and slow jams. This would have been a great collectors item if a few more cuts from the first album were included, and or more of the "B" side tunes incorporated on this set. There are plenty of reviews they tell you whats missing, this is because it's true. I swear, I would love the job of putting together the classics of the 60's and 70's dance music I am a product of the times, and was living on the west coast. I had done some DJ work for various clubs back in the day, in a small way but honestly, I was too busy on the dance floor most of the time. Whom ever the powers that be are that decide what is the very best of R&B groups needs their heads examined because they miss a lot of great stuff. This Cd is good but it could have been a lot better especially for the price. But for a beginner, it is a great introduction to the band, so pick it up anyway as this is as close to the real thing as you are gonna get unless you own the albums. I noticed they even used the first album logo on here. Talk about marketing strategies, sheesh!! But overall a good buy for us elders looking to go down memory lane with our dance music.

The greatest hits on this disc were the bomb. This group had some funky jams on here. The only reason their other hit songs "Start of a Romance and Real Love" aren't on here is because the group had long changed record labels by then. Those two tracks can be found on the title album "Start of a Romance" which was recorded later in the years around 1989. But this greatest hits is most definitely worth having in one's music collection.
