slack key arranging explained, January 2, 2008
This review is from: Slack Key Guitar: The G Kilauea Tuning (Paperback)
I own this book. You need to buy Daniel's Cd to actually hear this material, but that's worth it for the music. Daniel is pushing a different tuning than standard open "G" or "D", but he may be really on to something. His tuning gives you a bass note on the bottom for the main chords. In addition, he is a very talented arranger, and most of the songs are keepers. In addition, he gives you a great deal of basic information on how to work out your own arrangements. As a bonus, I find that many of the techniques in the book translate to folk or country perfectly. This is not a "how I did it" book as much as a "how you can do your own" book. Really worth it.
