5.0 out of 5 stars Goto online radio app/site November 29, 2012
By Kev

Been using their website for several years, chose it over Pandora because at the time I liked the station options better, not just by genre/artist but by time period. I haven't revisited Pandora since to see if they've updated because I've been satisfied with Slacker. This particular app is a great extension of the website with a simple interface to select stations and to Favorite and Ban songs. I like that it runs in the background when browsing the web and when I press the power button to shut off the screen. It's been a great way to introduce my baby (and myself) to classical music during meals since I don't know any song names but recognize a lot of songs.

Less repeating of songs in a day compared to Pandora. Can refresh music list and cache stations if on Premium Radio Member. Plays on Kindle, computer, and smartphone. Definitely recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Radio App February 11, 2012
By Casey

Works great on my Kindle Fire. The app itself is pretty stable and it allows me to listen to my own customized stations or pre-made stations for free. Much better then Pandora or SiriusXM. I decided to subscribe to the service for $4 per month to get rid of the ads, have unlimited skips, and get offline play so I can listen in my car. They also offer on-demand like Spotify if you are willing to pay $10 per month. The app offers something for everyone.

It is important to make sure the screen isn't allowed to go to sleep/standby while you are listening. At least on my Fire, if the screen goes to sleep it will freeze the app after the current song stops playing. This is easily avoided by just adjusting the settings so the screen stays on. I think the actual reason is because the Fire turns off wifi if you let it go to sleep.

5.0 out of 5 stars Slacker vs Spotify November 16, 2012

I could not get spotify to work on my tablet, but slacker does. It is as good as if not better than spotify. I am very happy with the app. It is free and works very well. The free version has ads but not nearly as many as pandora and I think also less than spotify. Just as there is an ad-free version with spotify,so you can pay a fee and do away with the ads in slacker.

1.0 out of 5 stars Great app to listen to commercials November 24, 2012
By A. Riel

I can understand a commercial every few songs for the free version but increasing commercial counts is annoying when you hear the same ones over and over. The new update plays 2 commercials in a row after 2 songs played. This app is temperamental with the wifi connection and stalls to only be closed with the task manager. I seriously wonder if Facebook designed this app. Explains how much irritation this app causes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great App February 10, 2013
By Rushi G
This is definitely one of the better music streaming sites out there. Although Spotify is the best in the US in my opinion, when you travel, it doesn`t work sometimes, so Slacker is a more reliable option. Slacker has a great library of music and it all just works well. The app has great settings and the commercials aren`t too often. I like the layout better than Pandora and the fact that it works on so many platforms makes it better than Spotify. Just give it a shot and you`ll love it!

2.0 out of 5 stars When it wants to work, fantastic. Otherwise.... February 19, 2013
Even before the new update I was having issues. With the new interface it's worse than ever.

I assumed when you pay for an app it works significantly better (and with less interruptions). I still get a "You're listening to Slacker Radio",etc. between every other song (I know, quit reminding me! I paid for it after all!) and the app crashes consistently. Also, if I switch stations one too many times, it likes to shut down and make me re-enter my iTunes password, calling my actions "suspicious activity". I'm using the app I paid for, what's suspicious about that?

And now to the new interface. This might just be my personal preference, but the old one was much easier to navigate (and faster to load -- I've never seen the buffering icon so many times before). The design definitely looks more tablet-friendly than smartphone or iPod compatible. This might just require some adjustment but, initially, I'm not a fan.

On the positive side, this is still a fun app to navigate when I've exhausted all my music on my iTunes and I'm looking for something different, as there are plenty of stations to choose from. I also like being able to cache stations for when I'm driving and don't have a wifi connection. Very handy.
