Book Description

Harlequin Presents October 1, 1999

WHEN JUST ONE NIGHT LEADS TO A WHOLE LIFETIME....

It was something Slade had never done before. But Lara Stevens had the face of an angel, and--like him--was facing an overnight delay to her plane. Before he knew it, he was suggesting they spend their time together....

When Lara looked into Slade Baron's eyes, they were her undoing. No man had ever looked at her this way, or made her feel this way. Who would she hurt if she accepted his invitation? He wanted her, and she wanted... A baby.

More About the Author

I live in New England now but I was born in New York City and lived in or near the city most of my life. It's where I met my husband--I was fifteen and a senior in high school! He was at both my high school and college graduations. We have a lot of shared, wonderful history.

After we married, I taught elementary school for a while. Then I settled into being a wife and mother but the desire to write was always there. I'd written short stories when I was little--the first, which I illustrated myself, I wrote when I was seven! I never really stopped writing and one day I looked in the mirror and said, "Okay, Sandra, you've always wanted to be a published writer. Maybe it's time you did something about it."

I'd always been interested in the complex ways in which men and women relate to each so it seemed natural to start writing romance fiction. I wrote short stories and sold several of them. Finally, I took a deep breath, sat down and wrote my very first novel. To my amazement and joy, Harlequin Presents bought it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sandra Marton's Notes, May 17, 2001
This review is from: Slade Baron'S Bride (Harlequin Presents) (Paperback)
SLADE BARON'S BRIDE was the third book I wrote in my Barons (of Texas) mini-series. At that time (1999) my plan was to write three books about the Baron brothers, but reader response was so wonderful that my publisher asked me to plan for four books instead. I did--I wrote MARRIAGE ON THE EDGE, SLADE BARON'S BRIDE, MORE THAN A MISTRESS and THE TAMING OF TYLER KINCAID... and readers asked for more. I was delighted, because this family has become very real to me. I've now written seven books about the Barons--MISTRESS OF THE SHEIKH came out this past year; THE ALVARES BRIDE will be published in September and THE PREGNANT MISTRESS will be published in April 2002, and I'm currently writing a single title novel about them called RAISING THE STAKES, again in response to the request of my readers.

It's always wonderful when people enjoy my books but to have so many people take the Barons to their hearts is a true joy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable, May 16, 2002

This review is from: Slade Baron'S Bride (Harlequin Presents) (Paperback)
Slade's one night stand with the beautiful strawberry blonde turns into much more when he meets her 18 months later and discovers she used him to have a baby, his baby. Fury leads him to force her into an unwanted marriage--but maybe their marriage was wanted afterall.

The beginning of this novel started off a little slow but once the characters meet again things pick up. I loved Slade. He was so charismatic and I felt like I could fall in love with him. However, the leading lady got on my nerves. She was very selfish and wanted to keep Slade from "her baby." She was ruthless. She used Slade to have a child and then never told him about the baby. Then when he discovers he has a son she tries to keep him away. She was so mean to him for no good reason. He deserved much better in my opinion but it was still a good book. His son was precious and the hot scenes sizzled. I recommend!
