Biography

Glam-rockers Slade are best known for their 1973 smash hit “Merry Xmas Everybody”, which is still wheeled out every December to soundtrack shops and radio shows in the run-up to Christmas. They were the most commercially successful glam-rock band in Britain in the early 70s, outperforming competitors like David Bowie, T. Rex and Roxy Music. In fact their singles sales were better than any rock act… Read more in Amazon's Slade Store

5.0 out of 5 stars THE BEST LIVE ALBUM EVER, May 8, 2004

In my opinion the best live album ever. It has an excitement about it that comes from a band at the peak form of it's career. Masters of their craft they know how to work an audience up to a frenzy. It has a very well balanced mix of old and new tunes and a heavy rock edge. I love it and I think you will too.

4.0 out of 5 stars Welcome brethren to the evening service..., January 10, 2011
By
This review is from: Slade on Stage (Audio CD)
Slade's third live offering is a high energy affair that is buttressed by their recent hard rock/heavy metal revival and their comeback at 1980's Reading Festival. `Slade on Stage' was recorded live at Newcastle and the rabid British fans, many of whom were small children when Slade was glitzing it up in 1972, give raucous response to such latter day Slade favs as "Rock n' Roll Preacher", "When I'm Dancing I Ain't Fighting" and "Lock Up Your Daughters". Slade may have faded into the woodwork by the end of the 70's but in the new decade they were gathering a new, younger and more of a bleeding ear audience who were currently fed on a steady diet of the NWOBHM. Part of the band's revived success was the old if you can't beat `em theory and they decided to slug it out with the young whippersnappers in their leather and chains. Old classics do make appearances and they snuggle warmly with the newer songs and there seems to be a heavier urgency to the former glam smashes of yesteryear. `Slade on Stage' is now part of the Slade Alive package so it is worth the buy just for that and for the opportunity to hear one of the all-time greatest live bands rip it up for a new generation of Britons.
