Slap Hat Extreme Self Defense Cap

The Slap Hat is a very plain baseball cap, and as such it draws little attention to itself. If you are looking for a non-lethal weapon that doesn't look like a weapon, this is it. I've worn it almost daily since I got it, and nobody has noticed anything out of the ordinary about it. The weight took a bit of getting used to, but it is actually very comfortable. The impact material is not one solid piece, but rather it feels like a beanbag, so you won't feel like you have a lead block on the back of your head while wearing it. If you are concerned that such a small, non-solid weight won't be effective when you need it, I've actually numbed my own hand by striking my forearm with it, and it sounds like a mallet when struck against solid objects. I have noticed that the weight tends to force the bill into a slightly higher position than I'm accustomed to wearing. I normally wear my hat brims a bit low, but it's a minor inconvenience. My one major complaint is that I have no idea what the impact material is actually made of. It is supposed to have the same density as lead, which leads me to believe that it is something else, but knowing the one thing that it isn't doesn't really narrow down the remaining possibilities. The reason I would like to know is that I don't want this thing to set off the metal detector wands that some bouncers use at clubs, or to lose it at an airport. I doubt that it is a metal, but I would feel better knowing exactly what I'm wearing. That aside, I can say that I am confident that the product will perform well if I ever need it to.

I got this item for my boss b/c he's big into self defense and I thought this would be a good boss's day gift. Not only is the product dissapointing, the shipping was terrible as well. First for the product. All it is, is a black cap with a small pocket sewn into the inside above where you would adjust the cap, filled with small BB type pellets. The 'pocket' isn't even double stitched or in any way reinforced. I would be afraid the BB's (or whatever they are) would come popping out with a solid thwack. Overall, I think the product is good as a gag gift but not for a serious one. Secondly, the shipping was horrible. I ordered my product on October 13th and it wasn't even shipped until October 28th, I received on November 4th. I would not do business with the seller or the manufacturer of this product again. :(

I bought 2 of these, 1 for me, 1 for a friend. They came today, I take 1 out, put it on and discovered that it's not going to fit!
Ok, I have a big head? Nope, doesn't fit my friend either. We both wear hats and know that 99% of the adjustable hats on the market fit us. These weren't even close, very disappointed. I'll be sending them back tomorrow.

i wish it was double knitted but im sure i could get one good hit out of it and that will prolly be all i need

I have to say this isn't as effective a defensive weapon as I'd have thought.(That's the biggest problem with online purchases, you can't handle the item first) The weighted section, (a squarish pouch at the rear of the cap) isn't very large, though I imagine that's to cut down on discomfort for the wearer. I wouldn't recommend having this as your only defensive weapon against two legged trouble. Having said that, everything helps, and it could be an effective distraction. Just practice hitting with the cap using your offhand while your dominant hand gets something better.
Where I think it DOES show promise is as a means of discouraging dogs. A good crack across the muzzle with this would certainly give Fido something to think about besides snacking on your leg.

I'm planning a trip to Paris this summer and I thought this would be a good hat to wear when out touring and sightseeing. Not only is it functional to keep the sun off your head, but it also screams out "I AM AMERICAN!!!" to anyone who happens to see you. And, while being an American might encourage some people to avoid me, I'll bet it will encourage the pickpockets and muggers to approach me since Americans always have money. That's where the self-defense feature of the cap comes in handy to ward off the gypsies and their grubby-fingered minions in the park.

However, I was a little bit concerned about the material used in the self-defense feature. My friend tells me that in order to get something that dense in that small a package, they would have to use depleted uranium pellets. So I wunder if this hat will be completely safe for long-turm ware. So far I've had it on ma haid for tree daze and it don't seem to be a probblem so far as yet to me.....but....itz kinda warm..............may...be I shud take itoff and rest ma brane......hey...is that toast?....countertop....framp/

My concern on this is really simple. It's basically a wearable "blackjack, sandbag or sand club." In my state that's criminal possession of a weapon, fourth degree. I bet it is something like that in yours, too. It's concealed, so that speaks toward intent to use the same unlawfully. Wear this into a licensed site for the sale of alcohol, such as your favorite sports bar, and now it's felony. No thanks.

I'm a coward and an imbecile and I need to know I'm able to bonk somebody with my hat if I need to, because most people want to attack me.

nice to have this and some pepper spray when carrying amounts of cash to the bank, too buy appliances, or at festivals. for those of us not in a right to carry state.

It was in self defense. The hat was very effective, although it took a bit to get used to the aerodynamics of it.
