Daves' A Killer, author that is!,
By
This review is from: Slap Shot Original: The Man, the Foil, and the Legend (Hardcover)
I have read many literature articles over the years and this I must say ranks as the best ever. Mr. Dave "Killer" Hanson has written a very poignant story about his life and a movie that is the best sports movie to date. The violent battles and off ice shenanigans are extraordinarily told by the man who did them and a movie deal about this book is certainly forthcoming. I can truthfully say buy this book and you won't be disappointed. Dave you are a "Killer!"

Dave shoots and scores with this whimsical tale of how he accidently became a movie star. 0ne day he's toiling in the rough and tumble world of hockey's minor leagues hoping to be discovered by an NHL scout. lnstead he's discovered by a talent scout and the next thing he knows, he's hanging out with Cool Hand Luke. While the movie toiled in obscurity, Dave was making a name for himself in the NHL with the Detroit Red Wings and the Minnesota North Stars. Then ''Slapshot'' started to get new life breathed into it, and Dave and his fellow Hanson Brothers became cult figures. Even though Dave's NHL career ended, his other hockey career took off and he has everyone putting on the foils. You'll (Eddie) surely love this book. 0therwise, you'll feel shame.

I bought the book because it was by one of the "Hanson" brothers. It gave me more insight into one of the "men behind the foil." After reading the book I gained new found knowledge into the Johnstown Jets and more into the "Charlestown Chiefs." I knew that Nancy Dowd wrote the screenplay for the movie "Slapshot" and that her brother Ned played "Oggie Ogelthorpe" but I never knew that Ned actually played hockey. This book is a must for any fan of the movie "Slapshot."

Slap Shot Original is a MUST READ!,
This review is from: Slap Shot Original: The Man, the Foil, and the Legend (Hardcover)
I have HOSTED the Hanson Brothers at FIVE charity events and read Dave's book in one week. Simply put, I could not put it down, it is very entertaining and the detail is incredible. I told friends who bought the book. Old Time Hockey was truely amazing -- and the boys played for the love of the game. I had a chance to discuss the book with Dave one-on-one (a few times) and it's remarkable how he remembers these stories in detail -- like he was playing just yesterday. There are so many BORING books out there on a variety of sports topics and most are written by "no-bodies," Dave explains hockey in the feeder leagues in a very clear and detailed manner and puts you right there with him! Nice Job Dave! [...]

Reading is Fun - Who knew?,
By
This review is from: Slap Shot Original: The Man, the Foil, and the Legend (Hardcover)
I received this as a gift, and thought what most of us do when someone give you a book. Oh, Thanks... I really liked the movie, but figured what could possibly be in the book that would be interesting.Once I picked it up, I found it completely addicting and entertaining. I got mad when I had to put it down, and it is so full of good stories, I already know I will read it again. The book covers a lot of details about how the movie was made, and what hockey was really like in the 70's. It is amazing how hard a player had to work and live to make it to the NHL or WHA. The book is very insightful and with perspective that is often lacking these days. Beyond that it is just a fun book to read. I mean really fun. Laugh out loud at times fun. It's easy to dismiss Mr. Hanson as a goon, but he is the type of person that deserves everyone's respect. Even as a writer.

I love hockey and I loved reading this book. Just getting a glimpse into the days of 60's & 70's minor league hockey was a treat. Nevermind the triumphs and tribulations of the lengendary Hanson brother. If you liked Slapshot, or even if you didn't, this book is very enjoyable to read. The stories are outrageous and true and the forewards are both poignant.

I didn't think this book would be that good, but was really surprised. I was around when this stuff was happening and can relate to what the author went through. I was surprised to find that a lot of what was in the movie actually happened, and loved hearing about the behind the scenes shenanigans that went on. It is also a story about overcome obstacles to achieve your goals, which our young people need to hear more of.Slap Shot Original: The Man, the Foil, and the Legend

IF you loved the movie, you will find the book very interesting and entertaining. The book does get in to a lot of Dave Hansons life after the movie, it is not just about the movie. It is more of a biography of Hansons life. The book offers insight in to how the movie was made, and how the characters were developed. It made me want to watch the movie all over again... and I did.

I found this book to be very entertaining and funny. As enjoyable as the movie. It could have been written better but I enjoyed reading about all the antics. To me Dave Hanson's hockey history was interesting. I didn't realize that he played for Herb Brooks.Reading this book gave me the incentive to purchase another book from Amazon. The Herb Brooks Book, (The Inside Story of a Hockey Master Mind) which I am still reading. Tony Mazzola

Great literature it's not, but for a fan of "Slapshot", it's must reading. It's the story behind the story.
