Ska/Punk Classic,
This review is from: Slapstick (Audio CD)
Less Than Jake's "Losing Streak", really got me into a Ska/Punk phase a few years ago, so I read a bunch of positive reviews about Slapstick, and figured I'd better pick up this CD. To be honest, I didn't really like the CD at all at first and was initially disappointed because I was hoping for a Less Than Jake clone. But like Operation Ivy's "Energy" album, I got a couple of its tunes stuck in my head, and the more and more I listened to it, the better and better it became. It's one of those albums that every time you give it a listen, you hear something new, and like it that much more. The CD was also my first exposure to vocalist Brendan Kelly (Later a vocalist for The Broadways and The Lawrence Arms) whose voice just packs every song with overwhelming energy and excitement. The lyrics are deep and thought out, many of them political, and many of them dealing with the everyday life of being a punk in Chicago. This band was the starting point for many artists in the great punk bands of the 1990's and early 2000's. Members of this band eventually went on to bands such as Less Than Jake, The Alkaline Trio, The Broadways, The Lawrence Arms, and The Honor System. This really is one of the Greatest Ska/Punk CD's of all time.
If you like this CD I would also suggest: Operation Ivy- "Energy" Less Than Jake- "Pezcore" & "Losing Streak" The Suicide Machines- "Destruction by Definition" The Lawrence Arms- "Guided Tour of Chicago"

Amazing ska/punk.,

I was not expecting this CD to be this good. I bought it only from hearing one song 'There's a metalhead in the parking lot' which is an awesome song. I was blown away the first time I listened to it. Every song on this CD is amazing, they blend ska and punk perfectly. The horn section is great it will get stuck in your head forever. It stinks that they broke up because they are still one of the greatest ska/punk bands out today. They remind me a bit of Operation Ivy, or even Against All Authority. Just get this, you won't regret it!

Slapstick is the greatest ska-punk band of all time.,

Slapstick's self-titled album is probably my favorite cd. They are one of only bands that really knew how to combine ska and punk rock into a really great sound. Their lyrics are great on every song, and every song has catchy horn-parts and great guitar and bass parts. I would definitly recommend buying this cd if you want to hear one of the best bands of all time.

Slapstick = Good.,

This is one of the best CDs Ive heard in the ska-core world in a long time. After I got tired of Less Than Jake and Mustard Plug, I had to find something new. Here it is. This is an awesome CD. The horn parts are too catchy for their own good. (All you stupid morons out there sayin Slapstick sounds too much like LTJ, you have to realize that Pete, the trombone from this band is now IN LTJ. He joined when these guys broke up in '97. God, you morons, just shut up!)

The best ska-punk band Chicago has ever seen,

That could possibly be for the world, too. I think this band was incredible, and the members formed other great bands like Lawrence Arms, The Honor System and Alkaline Trio. If you're a ska-punk fan, this deserves to be in your CD collection. If you've never heard this band, and are willing to give them a try, pick this up. Its 25 songs of pure magic. Every single song on here is fantasic. I can never get sick of this album. Great songwriting, horns, and guitars. If you like ska, you must get this album!

One of the best Punk/Ska CD's ever made!,

This is truly an amazing album. Although the sound quality and production is not the best, the album just displays raw greatness. Also, for everyone that says "Slapstick sounds like Less Than Jake" is getting mixed up. When Less Than Jake started playing Ska/Punk Slapstick was the only band currently playing that type of music at the same time. So you could almost say Less Than Jake sounds like Slapstick! None the less, this is a great album, 25 songs of raw, fast, punk/ska that we all love! Get this album right now! (especially if you like other bands such as LTJ, Catch 22, Op Ivy, etc.)

The late great Slapstick,

Slapstick was a great band from the chicago land area until they broke up and formed/joined new bands such as broadways, tuesday, ect. yet this CD remains one of my favorite CDs. They have a great ska/punk(skunk)sound w/ great lyrics. I recomend this CD to any ska/punk fan.oh yeah as response to one writer, I don't think they song "Alternative Radio" is contradicting to their music because they were refering to Alternative Rock such as Q101 chicago.

Get-It,

Ok lets start off that Slapstick released this album after they broke-up. Because they became more popular after they broke-up with the full length LookIt! No longer is LookIt! still avalible to buy, all of the songs on that cd are on this one with a few more new songs on it also. I Gave it 4 stars because I got lookIt! then got this album and it just was boring. But the new songs are good, and if you don't have LookIt! then get this now! You will love Slapstick, good Punk-Ska. And if you really like them, buy the Slapstick movie where they played their last show ever, even after they broke up!Check out my other reviews

This has to be the best punk-skacore CD I have ever heard. Make sure to look up the bands they split up into. The Broadways, Tuesday, Alkaline Trio, & Lawrence Arms to name a few.

Yes, Slapstick was a major influence for Ltj, but that doesn't mean that LTJ is a bad band! LTJ has a lot of talent, and not just becuase they sound like Slapstick, hell buy this Cd...you'll love it, but pick up "Losing Streak" by Less than Jake, becuase you will love that too.
