The book is very short; under 70 pages. But is has good drawings, sticks to the point (pun intended), and doesn't waste words. The illustrations are particularly good regarding targets. The sparring section is okay, and blade throwing takes up about a third of the book. This with a little common sense will take you pretty far.

There is no other way to put this except to say that this is a bad book. Its been twenty three years now since this book was written, making it grossly out-dated. Twenty three years ago no one was giving the kind of training thats available today, no one was using kydex or similar material for sheaths, no one was making concealed carry rigs and sheaths, and few were making knives for citizens self defense. The technological improvements, and increase in quality services for knife production and training have changed the field.
Techniques and grips are taken from WW-II silent killing techniques, which are pretty weak for the street. No emphasis is placed on how a street-fight actually happens, or how to actually deal with the sudden brutal reality of it. Fight fire with fire? Theres not even a mention of such agressive, assualtive, fire existing.
It could have been a good book, and has some points, ideas for training sesions and so on, but overall - its a bad choice for a knife work book. Get Put 'Em Down, Take 'Em Out by Don Pentecost, its ten times better, ten times more effective a method.

After reading this author's "Flexible Weapons", I had high hopes for this title. It was, however, highly disappointing. Though the overview of weapon styles is satisfactory, and the training tips somewhat helpful, the whole effort ends up being mediocre at best. Illustrations are sparse. There are much more thoughtful, seasoned, and illuminating titles to be found elsewhere.
