Better than I was expecting.,
By Marcus Abundus (Los Altos, CA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Slather (Audio CD)
I was expecting to hear a lot of shredfest guitar playing with not a lot of substance or depth, however I was pleasantly surprised. Loved the Latin beat in Heart of the Soul. Then he swithes to something smoother in "12:34". I am hoping to get to see his show in LA in Februrary. Hope to hear more in the future.

Great Album,
By Larry Hendricks (South Beach, Florida) - See all my reviews

I love this album. Very diverse. Doesn't sound anything like Satriani. It was a breath of fresh air. No stale melodies, or predictable chord progressions. I was very shocked to hear Latin as well as classical guitar on it. I think the problem with alot of people is they think that because it is an instrumental guitar album it has to compare to Joe Satriani. Wrong. Bill has taken it to the next step and branched out from the typical "shred guitar" fest. This album reflects maturity, substance and overall great musicianship. I would HIGHLY recommend this album to anyone that just wants to hear some great guitar playing and great songwriting.
You know what they say "those that are ahead of the pack get picked on the most"...or something like that :)

Wonderful songs, great guitar playing and superb musicianship. I highly recommend this cd to fans of Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Eric johnson, Gary Hoey and just music fans in general. I am highly impressed with the diversity on this cd.

I really liked this cd. Very good songs and great guitar playing. What I want to know is why is anyone comparing him to Joe Satriani when he obviously has his own unique style? I guess it just goes to show the ignorance of some people. This is a great cd and well worth the money.

Very cool and mature,

This album is very mature. I was pleasently suprised with the amount of musical maturity on this album. Alot of styles are represented here. The guitar playing is superb and on par with the best of em. At times the playing reminded me of Jeff Beck, very soulful and expressive. Slather is a great album!

SEEN IN CONCERT,
This review is from: Slather (Audio CD)
THIS KID ROCKS HES YOUNG AND INVENTIVE. I JUST SAW HIM IN CONCERT AND BOTTOM LINE IS HE LOVES MUSIC AND ISN'T TRYING TO BE LIKE ANYONE ELSE. HE PLAYS FOR HIMSELF AND WHAT HE LIKES THE ALBUM ISN'T CUT OR HAVE ANY SPECIAL CUT AND PASTE. WHAT YOU HEAR IS WHAT YOU GET. ITS HONEST AND HEARTFELT.
FURTHERMORE WHO EVER SAID HE WAS TRYING TO BE LIKE SATCH. THATS LIKE COMPARING VAI AND SATCH. JUST BECUZ ONE TAUGHT THE OTHER DOESN'T MEAN CRAP. AND THEY BOTH HAVE VERY UNIQUE STYLES OF PLAYING I GUESS ITS ALL ABOUT WHAT YOU LIKE.

The worst instrumental guitar album in history?,
By Roger B-M (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Slather (Audio CD)
Lonero's promo sheets would have you believe he's the second coming of Satch. Far from it. He's a third-rate player with a Satch obsession. His melodies are repetitive and derivative, his song structures are simplistic, and his playing is incredibly subpar, with clams here and there and a chancy rhythmic placement.
Do yourself a favor and spend your money elsewhere, even on Satriani's later production, even though it is no match for his own output from the late 80s-early 90s. Lonero's album is simply terrible. |
