5.0 out of 5 stars Explosive and fulfilling!!!, February 14, 2007
This review is from: Slave To Love (Paperback)
Slave to Love is a no-holds barred, sexual masterpiece penned by the extremely talented, Nikita Black. Detective Michael "Mick" McGraw and Special Investigations Officer, Caroline Palmer, tear up and heat up the pages of this latest hot erotic story that leaves little to the imagination - and it's just how it should be!

Mick aka The Iceman and Caroline go undercover into a secret world that many would never think to even think of. In this world, words like whips, chains, fetishes, bdsm, multiple partners and leather seem the talk of the day. However, Caroline isn't into any of those things and feels out of her depth as she and Mick hunt down a sexual predator who is preying on thirty-something year old couples who walk on the wild side. The more they discover, the more this book heats up--the chemistry and sexuality between Caroline and Mick is off the heat meter!! It's a sweaty and tingling time to be had by all. They both learn a lot about themselves in Slave to Love All I can really say is that Mick McGraw can be the Master whenever he wishes!!! He's smoldering.

The plot flows smoothly, is chalk full of adrenaline and gripping, Slave to Love is breathtaking, seductive and a pure pleasure to read. The build up and tension throughout ever page is fulfilling and satisfying in its conclusion.

Nikita Black should be labeled the Queen of Steam. Slave to Love is highly recommended (though shouldn't be read in public *g*) and should be enjoyed over and over again. I look forward to the next Nikita Black explosion!

I dont know if I can truly say that I liked this story. I enjoyed the first half, when the characters were still circling each other and the case was beginning. I liked all the characters and I especially liked Caro's attitude toward sexual submission. I thought there was great chemistry and the sex was hot. I especially liked the faux-rape scene. I thought that was nicely done.
A few things really annoyed me:
Now I know that this is an erotic novel, but I hate these scenarios where my disbelief cannot be suspended (naked undercover rookies that engage in sexual acts with their fellow officers...to catch a serial killer...right) I just can't imagine that in reality police officers would be kept on a case if they acted like these two. I thought that they really used poor judgement for people who wanted to solve a case.
I also hated when Mick asserted his sexual dominance at work. The panty thing was pushing it, but the scene with Bobby at the office really took it too far. The whole point of a Dom/sub relationship is trust, and for me that was a major violation (as well as sexual harrassment for poor Bobby who was put in a very awkward position)
Overall I though that neither of them was very professional, nor very good at their job. I especially wanted Caro to protest because Mick was obviously on a slippery slope and he was dragging her down with him.

And the end...sigh...what can I say? If I understand what happened correctly, then author hinted throughout the story that this was a possibility. I dont have a problem with it conceptually, but it renders the relationship element of the story as demented. (Who cares about the love story and sexual health of two characters that ended up doing what they did?) Oh well.

In any case, the pacing was good and it was a quick read for such a lengthy story. The sex was good (not enough SM and too much exhibitionism for my tastes, but that might work for another reader)
For all it's flaws it was not a bad book.

First let me say that this is most likely the best BDSM fiction that I have read in a long time. The characters were great and believable. There actually was a plot, and a very good one too. Plot was well thought out, kept you guessing. The sex was steamy and just the right amount, not page after page after page of how they touched each other. Just in your face, raw and much more realistic. One of the most thought provoking endings. Come on people, great ending. Just because it was not wrapped up in a neat little package with all explained doesnt mean it is a bad ending. Do you think real life is all nice and neat, or that things like that dont really happen, especially with strong personalities in power positions? Nikita, I say well done and can't wait for another great book like this one.

4.0 out of 5 stars First contemporary BDSM I've liked this much, September 24, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Unlike most BDSM books set in the contemporary world, this one succeeded in suspending my disbelief. Usually, I can't take seriously a story about modern characters living a BDSM lifestyle because it doesn't seem realistic that a modern woman would submit to a man completely, and/or the dominating male is a weird mix of character traits that defy synthesis (and places in the story that are supposed to be erotic end up making me giggle in their silliness). Here, where the submission is restricted to sexual encounters, I can believe it. The intensity of the alpha male cop with a very dark history and the more natural and gradual submission of the female (who never submits in other aspects of her life, and has her own history of emotional submission) was easier to swallow. Regarding the eroticism, the book is off the charts, with lots of exhibitionism. Decently written, with a compelling murder mystery plot driving the characters into exciting situations, the deepening affection of the characters feels relatively authentic. Thoroughly enjoyed the book. Took off one star due to the frustrating ambiguity at the end concerning the secret depth of involvement the lead male may have played in the first set of murders.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lost and Confused (spoiler alert), August 5, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I really liked the book. The mystery of the murders was what kept me reading. I thought the exhibitionism was a little far-fetched but I could get past that (it's a story, right?). However, I was totally confused with the ending. I was left wondering what really happened. I don't care who did the murders but give me an explanation...Please! And if Mick did it all then show us how and why. Or did he just set the people up to be killed but did not actually murder them. If my questions were answered then this would have been a 5 star review. Instead, I was left lost and frustrated! Would love to see a second book to tie things up and explore the other characters more deeply.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome, October 7, 2009

I am still reeling from this amazing read. I can't say enough about Mick & Caroline, he was the ultimate male Dom
and she became his perfect submissive. Although this was a very intense plot their relationship had some laugh out loud
moments, especially during their arguments. The author captured the true essence of how men and women can have a disagreement they believe are about the same issue only to find out the man is focusing on something totally different from the women. The scene when Mick goes over to Caroline's apartment for the second time and he stalks her around the room and eventually they have a fight was priceless. The dialogue betwee the characters was spot on, it sounded like real words being spoken by real people. If you liked the old Al Pacino movie Cruising you will love this book. Did I
mention that the sex was HOT and the BDSM was believable. For once the author did not over load the reader with BDSM
psycho babble. I have only 2 complaints....1. I too had a problem with how far Caroline went in exposing herself to her
co-wokers in the line of duty. I guess this is what it means to go deep under cover (LOL, I did not have a problem
with Mick exposing himself). 2. The last 2 - 3 pages....all I can say is what was that and why. I'm still giving this
book 5 stars. I hope this is not the last we see of Mick & Caroline, there were at least 3 more characters (Bobby,
Cody and Woodruff)I would like to see get their own book. This is my first book by this author and it want be my last.
She also writes as Nina Bruhns, I placed my Amazon order for some of those books today.

I loved this book, until the end. You won't be prepared for the twist at the end. At least, I wasn't. Great book. Only gave it a four because of the last few pages.

3.0 out of 5 stars Errrrr! Steamy but....., June 19, 2010

This review is from: Slave to Love (Kindle Edition)
This was surprisingly well written, with an almost believable plot (there IS an actual crime story / murder mystery that takes up much of the story). And the relationship of the main characters is definitely hot, and again, well written. I read Slave to Love, really enjoying it as I went though it, with the warning about the ending in the back of my mind... steeling myself for the unpleasant "final pages." Still, I wasn't prepared to be as ticked off about it as I now find myself. At this point I'll warn of a possible spoiler alert.....okay....spoiler alert! If you don't want info. about the conclusion...off you go. Having written that, I'm not sure I can actually spoil this for fellow readers, not sure it's possible in this case. I did a little surfing about the ending and found a site where the author actually posted a response to one of the reader comments. In the response she writes something to the effect of..."do you really know who the killer is?" If she can write that about her own story, well, ....See why I'm annoyed?

5.0 out of 5 stars A bit dark but HOT! Loved it!, October 9, 2011
Mick (The Iceman) McGraw and Caroline Palmer go undercover into the BDSM scene to hunt down a sexual predator who is preying on thirty-something year old couples who like to take a walk on the wild side. You can see pretty fast that Mick is far from innocent. And even though Caroline isn't used to chains and whips, she seems to be a quick study. She's spellbound by this lifestyle and agrees to explore a lot of new "stuff". And she accepts to be Mick's "pleasure slave". The chemistry between Caroline and Mick is extremely palpable and the sparks are flying! Ladies, be prepared for a few verrrrry hot sex scenes and please...get used to exhibitionism! They both learn a lot about themselves and especially Caro learns to live out her fantasies.

Jeez, a psychologist would have a field day with Mick's personality. Occasionally, this guy can be downright scary and I was astonished to see a man like him working with law enforcement. I am not an US citizen but where I'm living something like that would be out of the question. Ok, obviously that's part of the books of fiction. This guy had serious problems in the department of anger management. Being The Iceman is only façade because underneath...gosh, he's got a lot of things to work out! Nevertheless, Mick was scorching HOT and Caro was his perfect match. They set the pages on fire...

At times this book feels a bit dark and don't be afraid of a few gory details. But otherwise it is very erotic and sensual with a good part of suspense. The plot is interesting, gripping and flows smoothly. The characters are complex and riveting. Even the secondary characters are a very nice bonus to this story. The build up of tension throughout the book is very good. Overall, a very well written story and a pleasure to read! I don't want to give away too much about the ending but I got a bit distraught and it definitely gives you a few "strange" ideas about Mick and this case...

5.0 out of 5 stars Overlooked but Splendid, March 7, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Slave To Love (Paperback)
Recently reread this book purchased in 2008. It is one of my favorites and carries the reader careening through a highly energized erotic romp and a terrifying twisting murder mystery. Could not believe I did not do a review before this. Well I overlooked the review but not this splendidly told tale of Mick and Caro. I hated to have it end.
