5.0 out of 5 stars EDITED VERSION" IS JUST WHAT SOME FANS NEEDED, January 16, 1999
This review is from: Slave to the Grind (Audio CD)
Skid Row's "Slave to the Grind" is SKID ROW at their best! The difference between the "E dited Version" and the original version of this album is the song "Beggar's Day" is on th is album instead of "Get the F*** Out". This makes it more palatable to parents who obje ct to "Parental Advisory, Explicit Lyrics" labels. It might also be the better choice if you are offended by the "F" word (although I doubt that is a big issue among Skid Row fa ns). "Beggar's Day" is more of a tongue in cheek song. "Get the F*** Out" is more of a groupie bashing song (in the "Slave to the Grind" version anyway). On this album the ban d was clearly working together as a unit, and the styles of the various songs are diverse as the personalities that formed this incredible band. Sebastian Bach once again used h is impressive voice to deliver the goods. Overall, the sound on this album is more aggre ssive than SKID ROW'S first effort. At times the lyrics seemed to focus more on negativit y than rebel! ! lion. Still, overall, the album deserves a place in every collection. I know it will al ways be high on the "play list" in my own collection. Any fan of Sebastian Bach's vocals will especially appreciate this album since now they can listen to his first solo effort "Bring 'Em Bach Alive" and hear him sing five of the songs from this album again, live, and better than ever.

5.0 out of 5 stars A solid rock album, thanks to Beggar's Day!, May 23, 2008
This review is from: Slave to the Grind (Audio CD)
This is a great heavy metal album, as it keeps a cohesive sound and tone throughout with it's pounding riffs and meaningfull lyrics.

I can't imagine listening to the EXPLICIT LYRICS version of Slave To The Grind, I've heard "Get the F*** Out" and it does not fit the rest of the album in theme or quality.

My review will consist of the best lyrics from each song:

MONKEY BUSINESS: "The freaks come out at 9 and it's 20 to 10"
SLAVE...: "You better mark my words, cause I'm history, yes indeed"
THE THREAT: "I wasn't put here, to be treated, like some disease you hoped would go away if left alone"
QUICKSAND JESUS: "Are we saved by the words of bastard saints"
PSYCHO LOVE: "Check out Clementine, cleanin' needles in her wine"
BEGGAR'S DAY: "Suzi got an uzi what a beautiful bride, that's where the trouble began"
...CHAIN GANG: "Shackled to the sytem-and draggin' my feet"
CREEPSHOW: "Psychos, Dykes & Transvestites are on the choppin' block"
...DARKENED ROOM: "The rage of the angels left silent and cold"
RIOT ACT: "I never wanted to be President, 'cause it's nothing but an ego trip"
MUDKICKER: "Your prestige is clear as day, but I can scrape the sewer bilge and see the same"
WASTED TIME: "Creation's colors seem to fade to grey"

This is a great listen all the way through-rock on!
