Review
...chronicles the exploits of the well-endowed Jack Mallard, who's on his way to Zanzibar on a mysterious mission.... ...the author does a fine job of depicting Zanzibar in both its natural beauty and urban decay; the continual heat and humidity turn hotel beds into mildewed ruins, and fresh water is almost unheard of.... ...Von Mann also keeps up an element of suspense, with Jack not entirely sure of the motives of his new friend Konoco, but unable to resist his charms. --
Bay Windows, Volume 16 / Number 41, 1 October - 7 October 1998An exotically erotic and whip-cracking tale of modern Zanzibar. Beat your way to the head of the line to get your hands on this one --

From the Author
During years of foreign travel, I held thoughts in my minds-eye of those rare couple of as-yet-unvisited locales that held out invitations to exceptional indulgences in exoticism. Recently, I finally succumbed to the temptation to heed Zanzibars call. This gone-down-in-legends island, off the east coast of Africa, had long enough tempted me with its collage history of slavery and cloves, of Arabs and the Portuguese, of sultans and revolution. In the end, Zanzibar didnt disappoint -- and it did. It was what I expected -- and it was somehow less. My only uncontradictory conclusion, by the time I put my thoughts into the book format of this novel, was that Zanzibar continues, for however briefly, to offer us adventurous few, who undertake the journey to get there, one brief and final chance to gain insight into fast-decaying vestiges of a tumulous history that modern-day residents would best prefer forgotten.
