One of the Funniest Fantasies Ever,
By
This review is from: Slay and Rescue (Paperback)
Prince Charming is the star of this book. Not just any Prince Charming, but every Prince Charming you have ever read about rolled into one. He leads a busy life rescuing princesses and slaying dragons. He is heir to the throne and a favorite of all in the kingdom. But why is he not happy? Could it be that when rescuing a naked princess he only gets a handshake as gratitude? Could he really want more than just the knowledge of a job well done? Well, everything changes when one of his missions uncovers the secret of his father's past infidelity. Seems Prince Charming has an older sibling. That means he is no longer first in line for the throne and that changes everything. Most every fairy tale you grew up with is parodied or lampooned in this book. This book manages to fuel laughter without crossing the line into plain silliness. It is a wonder that with such a marvelous book out that we have not heard a lot more from John Moore.

Raunchy, hilarious, and wildly imaginative,
By Jean Felipe Teotonio (Roanoke, Virginia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Slay and Rescue (Paperback)
In 1998, I picked up "Slay and Rescue" because I was bored and it seemed like a quick and light read. Little did I know that it was to become one of my favorite books of all time. John Moore is excellent writer who makes you feel as if you actually stepped inside a fairy tale but only here he shows us Prince Charming would have rally been like: a randy teenager who saves princesses in the hope the one of them will thank him on their back. Raunchy, hilarious, and wildly imaginative "Slay and Rescue" will make you forget everything you thought about fairy tales. Some people compare this book to "The Princess Bride" and I must say that those people are insane and should be put away because "The Princess Bride" is drivel compared to this book. Read it. You won't regret it.

Fabulously Funny!,

This review is from: Slay and Rescue (Paperback)
Lampooning nearly every fairy tale at once, John Moore weaves a captivating tale of Prince Charming and the adolescent conflict between his duty to the kingdom's public relations image and his growing desire for freedom and a good time. Charming and friends are a fascinating bunch, very real characters in a magical and humorous world. This is one of my all-time favorite books and I've read it many, many times. John Moore, if you're out there, please write more books!

I hope he becomes more prolific though. This book was great. I've read all of his books and they never fail to make me laugh. I pretty much only read humorous books and he is one of the few authors for whom I always check when shopping. Anyway, read it you'll be glad you did.

I COULDN'T PUT THIS BOOK DOWN,
By Paul Foley (DE, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Slay and Rescue (Hardcover)
Slay & Rescue is a fast-paced adventure with just the right amount of humor added. From the very first page Mr. Moore kept me entertained. Prince Charming encounters beautiful maidens, wizards, a fire breathing dragon and many more interesting characters. Once you read this tale you will view the above cast of characters in a whole new light. I recommend this book to anyone looking for a highly entertaining and fun read.

OK I love John Moore books. I now have them all. Every single one of them was both funny and heartwarming. If you like Douglas Adams or Robert Asprin this is fantastic stuff. Better in my opinion than Terry Pratchett.

Wonderfully clever and funny,

I loved this! Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, and Cinderella described from Prince Charming's point of view. Adventure, humor, and romance perfectly blended. Particularly clever and subtle is the way Moore used the "narrative voice" to reinforce the Charming character.

Very Entertaining and Funny,

I read the Peanut Press ebook version, and couldn't stop laughing thoughout. A quick and fun read that keeps you entertained and engaged, and gives you stories to tell your friends. Not for the extremely prude, gets semi-racy in bits.

I have never read any book like it. It is the best I have ever read and now my favorite book in all the world. Surpasses "The Princess Bride" by a universal infinity. I have been inspired.
