5.0 out of 5 stars Give this a chance
So far I see that not everybody is enjoying the Unholy Alliance dvd. If you're worried more about the picture and audio formats while it already looks and sounds decent as it is, than you're going to be disappointed of course. Where's the 5.1 surround mix? Anyone with a home theater setup will be disappointed by the 2-channel audio. Not to mention the video quality could be a lot better. At one point during Dead Skin Mask I thought something was wrong with my TV. Skip this and get Still Reigning instead.

So far I see that not everybody is enjoying the Unholy Alliance dvd. If you're worried more about the picture and audio formats while it already looks and sounds decent as it is, than you're going to be disappointed of course. This is 100 times better than the Ozzfest dvd that came out a couple of years ago, and while the Sounds of The Underground dvd was awesome, the sound quality on Unholy Alliance blows it away. While it would have been nice to have more Children Of Bodom and Lamb Of God, the performances that are shown are good as is. I'm not a huge fan of Mastodon, but I'm glad they're on here with three of their best songs....and of course, you've got the headliners, Slayer. Some may ask "why ten songs from Slayer? The other bands only have 1, 2 or 3 songs on here." I don't know. Don't complain. If you didn't get to see the tour last year, this dvd basically serves as a taste of what it was like, while at the same time serving as Slayer's newest dvd release. With ten songs, it might as well be. I'm sure it probably doesn't come close to Still Reigning, but it beats the hell out of War At The Warfield.

5.0 out of 5 stars Slayer rules..., November 19, 2007

Why are these other bands waste space on this DVD? I wasted some time listening to them a couple of times, and while some songs might be okay (Lambs of God), other stuff is just unbearable (Children of what the? Urgh...).

But if you buy this CD for Slayer, you won't be disappointed. I think Slayer had a great day... Tom Araya sounds good, and the others usually don't disappoint anyway... Enjoy!

3.0 out of 5 stars Meh...good background stuff if you're having friends over, November 1, 2007
This review is from: Slayer: Unholy Alliance Live (DVD)
Just snagged this today (watching Slayer's set as we speak). I'm a big Lamb of God fan so seeing the guys who went onstage right before Slayer getting a measly one song on the dvd upset me a bit, but hey, if I want LoG, I have their own dvd. The track listing of the dvd aside, the footage of this is mediocre at best. As the other guys here stated, a lack of 16:9 and better audio playback options suck. My household is still without any HD/ Dolby surround sound, so if you live in a similar situation, the technical aspects wont bother you too much. Thank god the bands on this dvd all had tight sets cause thats what saves it from some lousy camera work.

2.0 out of 5 stars could be so much better, October 31, 2007

this dvd is not anamorphic widescreen so if you have a 16:9 tv your gonna get pinched off ( black bars all around the picture ). If you have a 4:3 tv, this is a decent buy for the price.

Also, like the other reviewer said, no 5.1 mix at all.

so much potential....

5.0 out of 5 stars Alright dvd for an amazing concert, November 10, 2007

This concert was probably the greatest metal tour in the last few years. I remember Slayer's lead singer had surgery not too long before the tour started and I thought i'd miss the chance of seeing Slayer again. Well, luckily Tom showed up. Not his best singing efforts but he still performed. Thine Eyes Bleed started off with a good set, Mastadon really was the best band of the night, I was crushed during Children of Bodom, Lamb of God was good as always and Brian from Shadows Falls showed up for a brief few seconds during one song. I cant believe Lamb of God got only one song in the dvd. Slayer tried there best and was loud but the singing was off key. My mind still hasnt changed about Slayer, still the best metal band of all time. The tour was awesome and well worth every penny I paid to see it but this dvd will not really show you just how awesome this show was.

3.0 out of 5 stars Dont sell your soul for this one!, October 31, 2007

I thought this would be better produced. First off, the video production is terrible. No 16:9 widescreen, no surround option, and the picture is very grainy. The menu systems arent too bad. Also, how about some liner notes or booklet to go with the DVD? Of course the music kicks a**, but I was hoping for something better than this.
