5.0 out of 5 stars AWESOME!!!
A week before my first sleep study, I got this book -- and all I can say is "Thank God for the information in there." It is written in "english" that I understand - not "doctor-ease"! I went to my first sleep study knowing what to expect. I went to the second one knowing what to expect. I went for my pulmonologist appointment, knowing what to ask and look at with my...

1.0 out of 5 stars SLEEP APNEA: THE PHANTOM OF THE NIGHT
I was so happy when I found this book online, after many weeks of researching. However, the book was a real disappointment. I am an educator at the college level, and believe me, this is nothing more than a textbook.
For whom, I am not sure since the subject of sleep apnea is not taught in mainstream classes in colleges or universities. It is misrepresented in...

This review is from: Sleep Apnea - The Phantom of the Night: Overcome sleep apnea syndrome and snoring (Paperback)
A week before my first sleep study, I got this book -- and all I can say is "Thank God for the information in there." It is written in "english" that I understand - not "doctor-ease"! I went to my first sleep study knowing what to expect. I went to the second one knowing what to expect. I went for my pulmonologist appointment, knowing what to ask and look at with my hypnogram (a word that I learned from the book and then used with my doctor, and he was astonished!!!) The experience of being on the CPAP machine for the first 15 days was very easy for me, as this book answered questions that I didn't even know to ask! And the FAQ's still are helping as I reach my 6 month anniversary with my CPAP! If you even suspect you have Sleep Apnea - this is the book for you!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Encyclopedia of sleep apnea, September 24, 2007
This review is from: Sleep Apnea - The Phantom of the Night: Overcome sleep apnea syndrome and snoring (Paperback)
I have been diagnosed with sleep apnea and use CPAP. In order to be more involved with my own treatment I purchased four books on the subject to gain as much insight as possible. This is without a doubt the most informative. It describes the condition, compares it to normal sleep patterns and gives nearly encyclopedic information on treatments and what you can do to help yourself. I highly recommend this book.

Lots of good information, presented in clear language. One of the authors is a patient, and I found his comments particularly helpful - especially his notes about how we ALL hate the CPAP equipment, but there are good reasons to continue to struggle with it, to explore better options, etc.... because the tradeoff for better sleep, better quality of life, and better prognosis for longterm wellness, make it worth while. Lots of pictures, excellent explanations throughout. Highly recommended.

I was diagnosed with sleep apnea recently. A sleep specialist friend recommended this book and I must say it is full of solid information that is useful in understanding sleep apnea. I particularly appreciated the section where many questions, concerns, difficulties about sleep apnea and the CPAP machines are discussed. Rather than always having to contact my sleep center doctor or the medical equipment company, answers were found in this book. I would buy it again or suggest to anyone with sleep apnea.

4.0 out of 5 stars A solid book ..., July 9, 2006
This review is from: Sleep Apnea - The Phantom of the Night: Overcome sleep apnea syndrome and snoring (Paperback)
Helpful to patients in understanding what sleep apnea is and how they should deal with it; does not present much of surgical techniques, instead focusing on machines, CPAP, etc. Certain parts are hard to understand - in doctor's speak - but overall very useful background information. Worth a look if you suffer from this, particularly mild cases; more severe cases should consult a physician.

A must-have book for anyone who has been diagnosed with Obstructive Sleep Apnea. All of the questions that you will forget to ask your doctor will be answered somewhere in this informative volume. Also great if someone close to you has apnea. This book should be included with every CPAP machine at delivery.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sleep Apnea must read book, January 13, 2009
By
This review is from: Sleep Apnea - The Phantom of the Night: Overcome sleep apnea syndrome and snoring (Paperback)
Diagnosed with sleep apnea in Nov 08. I needed to find out everything I could about this disease. All three major bookstores here had little to no info on this condition. I looked up this book on Amazon and found it to be an excellent reference. Written by doctors and a patient with the disease, this book gave me the knowledge to ask the right questions with my doctors who were treating me.
This book provides the insight and knowledge that a patient can understand and needs to know. Highly receommended.

Great book.....very informative, answers most of your questions on this involved subject, especially if you are newly diagnosed and confused. Most information is dead on, and worth a read.

Read the book and if you have a sleeping disorder seek
professional help. I sought help. Since then I have been using a mask and CPAP machine for 2 weeks and have noticed significant differences in
my energy level during the day. I do not want to take a quick nap during the afternoon! Do you sometimes nod off while waiting for the stop light to change? Thats not good. Read the book and then get help.....Stats say that worldwide 1 out of 20 have some sort of sleep disorder....
