This is a must have for any expectant or new mom! My husband bought this for me when I was pregnant with our third daughter and I listened to it everyday before she was born. When we went to the hospital, I took the tape and a small tape player with me. The gentle and heartwarming melodies instantly soothed my newborn and lulled her to sleep. Many nights, we would both fall asleep on the couch, listening to all of those wonderful lullabies. It is truly the best tape I have ever owned. Now that my "newborn" is two years old, she still asks to listen to "Welca world" ("Welcome to the world") and we absolutely love it. We will never get tired of listening to it. My personal favorites are "Irish Lullably", "Appalachian Lullably", and I dare anyone to listen to "The Moment I Saw You" without needing a tissue! I highly recommend this cd. It is the perfect babyshower gift.

Magical indeed. Just after our little girl joined us this album made me cry tears of joy with the simple expressions a Mother (and daddy too) feels for her baby. It immediately became our evening feeding-time music.

Now it is part of our bedtime routine for our 1-month old. Daddy gently dances through the first few tunes which includes our baby, Erika's, favorite "Starlight, Starbright" (she really responds to that tune! or is it Daddy's dancing footwork?) Daddy then hands a happy relaxed baby to me for her late dinner and some cuddling. By the last song Erika is full, happy and asleep, Mom is relaxed and content and Daddy is a happy man too.

Another part of the magic from this CD is how it reminds Moms and Dads how special their baby is and how wonderful is the moment they are sharing with the baby. Very therapuetic for the parents, especially after a long day with a baby!

My favorite song is the Irish Lullabye but I love them all. Daddy's favorite is "The Moment I saw you" and the early "danceable" tunes. The whole CD is truly a gem! We look forward to this being a favorite for many years to come.

This is a must have for all young families!

I've sung the lullabies from this beautiful CD for going on 6 years now! I received it as a gift when my first child was born, and, although I have several lullaby CD's, this is without question the favorite of both my kids. My 6 year old, while well past the rocking to sleep stage, still requests certain of these songs. And, his little sister WILL NOT nap without at least 3 or 4 of Ms. Larson's fabulous songs first. If you buy only 1 CD to play to soothe and calm your child, make it this one.

I bought the cassette to prepare for the birth of my daughter, Abby, almost 7 years ago. It helped me relax during those last, difficult nights before she arrived - it really touched me as a parent. She came early. She was not perfect, not healthy, but she was strong. Abby had a rare kidney disease... I played this recording for her CONSTANTLY during her 10 weeks in the NICU at UCLA. She was on a breathing tube 8 of those ten weeks, and it was often difficult for us to hold her, but I would always play this music and it would soothe her. I've found its power to be almost magical! These melodies also helped see us through some very difficult nights once we got home, and through many subsequent hospitalizations (ultimately a kidney transplant:). The voice, the melodies, and the soft - very natural- instrumentation make this an exceptional CD. I've bought this CD for many friends, and now I'm buying it again for my son. May its magic continue!

We received this for a gift when my son was born in early 1998. We had been trying to have a child for 10 years and had almost given up hope.... These songs made me cry the first several times I heard them. I see that a couple of reviewers didn't like the FEW times that God was mentioned. I really liked that part! When you become a parent -- you better understand your connection to God and how he must also feel about us! I frankly believe that if God (or whatever you choose to call him) were in our lives more -- we would be in a lot better shape as a people!

My son asks for it now that he's 2-1/2 and sings some of the songs. This CD is really well worth the $ spent!

I bought several lullaby CD's when my daughter was born in February, but this is the one in the CD player every night. Listening to this CD while nursing at bedtime has become part of our bedtime ritual, and it puts us BOTH to sleep! The songs are very soothing, with wonderfully sweet lyrics that are easy to sing to your baby. When we're having trouble settling our baby, I put this music on, and it almost always does the trick.

A previous reviewer complained that some of the songs had a religious overtone, and I just wanted to clarify, that while this is true (and something that I like about it), that it is not specific to any particular religion. (Examples: "Your Father above cradles you in his love", "I love you, but God loves you the best").

This CD is sure to become my new favorite gift for expecting parents.

This is the sweetest and most soothing lullabye tape you'll ever find. There is not one song on the CD that I don't love. My girls have been falling to sleep by this tape for over two months and we are all still loving it!

The songs are wonderful, Nicolette Larson has a sweet, simple voice that compliments the songs beautifully. You'll also hear David Crosby, Graham Nash, Linda Ronstadt, and Andrew Gold (who helped produce the CD).

Buy it! You'll love it!

This is just the most beautiful compialation of songs to sing to your child. Words can really not express what this cd means to me. So many of the songs put the most loving parents feelings into words. Starlight, Starbright brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it. They are all so beautiful! After trying very hard to have children, and finally being blessed with our miracle child, these songs express what is in my heart. "Never thought that in a million years, never thought that you would come to me, You're the answer to a million prayers;... I can hear you breathing next to me; Just how lucky can you person be? I am looking at a mystery; everything i dreamed; more than I could wish for." Her gentle loving voice make this a lullaby collection you really shouldn't miss!

We bought this tape when our daughter was born, almost six years ago. She still listens to it every night to fall asleep. Her favorite is "Oh Bear". She knows all of the words on the whole tape by heart. We are leaving for Florida tomorrow morning and the biggest thing my daughter is worried about taking with us is her sleepy tape. Even at almost six, this tape is so comforting and soothing to her. What beautiful songs! Even my husband likes the songs. I can't say enough about this CD. The fist time I listened to it, on the way home from the store I cried. Our daughter was only a month old and she was next to me in the car. Looking at her, and hearing these songs is nothing short of magical! Truly a special CD.

I originally bought this CD shortly after its release in 1994 for my then infant daughter. It played over and over in her room. Since then, my son and other daughter both have listened to it over and over, too. It is, most definitely, the prettiest music in our CD collection.

Still, on certain nights, my son, now 8 and a "big, tough" hockey player, requests that we put "Oh Bear, Oh Bear" on his CD player "and make it play over and over". It comforts him now, just as it did when he was tiny.

Why a review now after so long? I am buying it for a friend who is expecting her first child. I want to share this treasure with her.
