From the Author

I wrote this book out of my frustration with looking for a cure to my own sleeplessness. The books about sleep I found had somewhat helpful information, but it was often presented in a dogmatic or scientific manner that didn't speak to my personal sleep needs. "The Sleep Book, A Bedside Companion" was written as a response to what was currently available on the subject. It takes the scientific jargon and translates it into layperson's terms. In addition I tried to make it entertaining, and a resource for discovering the cure to your own personal sleep needs. Sleeplessness is as individual as fingerprints, and I take the reader on a journey where they can discover the cause(s), and thereby the cure(s) to their sleeplessness. It is laid out in an easy-to-use fashion, since the goal was to make the subject of sleep accessible to everyone. I hope it works for you.

4.0 out of 5 stars Reassured into sleep., November 26, 2000
By
JOEY Greene (L.A., California, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Sleep Book: A Bedside Companion (Paperback)
As an attorney with lots of daytime stress in court or meeting clients or researching and writing briefs, I guess I am a "type A" high tension individual. My kind of daytime stress carries over into lots of sleepless or restless nights, filled with contiuing analysis and mental word processing. I do have lots of prescription and non prescription sleeping pills, but they leave me nervous or groggy in the morning when I need to shine for my clients. This book gave me some down to earth non medical hints on letting go of workday stress and allowing me to find some personal space at bedtime. I also found the alphabetical chapter arrangement with its short aptly titled subjects easy to negotiate whether I read through continuously or skipped from aptly titled topic to topic, without losing anything. Grant-Gray's light hearted approach made it easy reading and easy to internalize for future nervous nights.

4.0 out of 5 stars An enjoyable read, November 30, 2000

I heard the author on a morning drive-by show. At the time, I was on the way to work, and couldn't stop yawning. She provided helpful advice that made me think twice about my current sleep habits and lifestyle. I bought the book for my girlfriend also, and she bought one for her mother! The book is entertaining and useful, and an enjoyable read. Highly recommended.
