Nothing new,
By Elizabeth C G (Downingtown, PA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sleep: The Brazelton Way (Paperback)
I was hoping this book would help us all get a better nights sleep, but it's the same old "cry it out" method we've all heard about. Not our style.

This is the one,

There are so many books out there now for parents, especially about sleep. I never would have known which one to pick -who has time for more than one?- if one of my co-workers hadn't told me to check out the Brazelton Way. Well, she was right. This book is only about a hundred pages long, it fits in your pocket, and it's written so clearly you can zip right through it. I love my kids, but I'd rather be with them than spending a lot of time reading about them. I know many parents who feel the same way, especially single parents like me. It's tough raising a child alone, especially for a guy, because everyone is second guessing you and making you feel like you're never going to figure out how to take care of a kid. These little books, though, have really made me feel like I know what I'm doing. I love the way they steer me back to trusting my own gut, and at the same time give me so much useful advice. I bought this sleep book because my four-year-old was waking up with nightmares every night. He was so scared of having another one that he started refusing to go to bed. I couldn't deal with that because I have to get my sleep too. But this book gave me a few simple tips and all I had to do was try them out a few times and my little boy settled down - no more nightmares. This books is definitely the one. I highly recommend it to any parent who wants to be sure they're doing everything they can do to raise happy, healthy kids.

Could work I suppose,
This review is from: Sleep: The Brazelton Way (Paperback)
This book is easy to read & sympathetic but it didn't work for me. Staying with my baby while he was supposed to self-soothe (as recommended) did not help him or reassure him in any way. He cried continually, stopping for no more than 2 mins at a time. It worked better for me to leave him, returning every 10 - 15 mins for very brief periods of reassurance. He still cried but less & less each day. I think there are babies for whom the stay-with-them style could work, but not all, and alas, not mine.

Another cry it out to sleep book,
By Mother "Carole" (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sleep: The Brazelton Way (Paperback)
I thought I'd find more logical techniques for sleep from Dr Brazelton since I enjoy all his other books, but this book just follows the old-school cry it out method. I did find many non-crying solutions in a newer book called the No Cry Sleep Solution.

A Good Night's Sleep,
By marilyn agosto (Detroit, Michigan) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sleep: The Brazelton Way (Paperback)
I am a single parent and, I confess, had been co-sleeping with my little boy until he was three. At first it was convenient and cozy. But as he got older, I just got tired of never having a good night's sleep. What I love about this book is that it accepts the reality of co-sleeping for so many families, never made me feel bad about my 'decision' (actually I just fell into it) and gave my simple, clear strategies to teach my child how to go to sleep on his own. And guess what? They work! Now we both get a good's night sleep. Lots of other problems are discussed in short, simple sections, so I know I'll keep this book around just in case we run into any other snags...

WORKS!,

I bought this book out of desperation. My 4 month old was up all night long. I read it in one sitting and decided to try it. I only took parts of it and actually put it into use. BUT with the parts I used, my baby slept through the night after only 4 nights. And NO crying it out, she may have fussed a few times, but no crying. Now, my little one is 9 months old and sleeps from 8pm to 8am. AND when she rubs her eyes during the day all I have to do is lay her down for her nap. She puts herself to sleep!! I do think that alot of the concepts used would be better off used for kids under 1. That's in my humble opinion - but I can't imagine it helping with kids who already have a fairly set pattern of sleep. This is great for setting a standard for sleep in little ones. (again, in my humble opinion) I LOVE this book - it saved my sanity!

All I needed to know,
By Victoria Beecher (Bloomington, Indiana) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sleep: The Brazelton Way (Paperback)
This is a great little book - short, easy to use, not overwhelming. Yet I've found all the answers to my questions in it, simply and clearly explained. I especially like the section with all the suggestions on how to handle problems. I'm done with struggling over bedtime with my 3 year old. This book has shown me what to do and given me the confidence to do it.

A Lifesaver,
By msibre (Evanston, Illinois) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sleep: The Brazelton Way (Paperback)
This little book on sleep has sure helped me and my family get through the night. It turned out that my middle child's new sleep problem was a touchpoint for all of us, and once we understand that her refusal to go to bed and her awakenings during the night were all about being four and afraid of her own feelings, we were able to show her we could take her seriously and help her settle herself back down. It is such a relief to know that there is so much more help in this little book that I can turn whenever I need it again. I hope every parent knows that there is such a helpful resource out there.

Not recommended!!!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Sleep: The Brazelton Way (Paperback)
I purchased this book because at first glance it appeared to be divided into different age levels with advice for each. Not the case, for some ages there was advice and for others there was information about typical behavior for that age level but it didn't say how to use that information. It is not a helpful book for anyone who is looking to help their child develop good sleep habits.

We purchased this book to try and help us help our 1+ year old daughter to have better sleep habits. This book was absolutely no help.
