Book Description

Through the eyes of a killer…

Rachel de Luca has found incredible success writing self-help books. But her own blindness and the fact that her troubled brother has gone missing have convinced her that positive thinking is nothing but bull.

Her cynicism wavers when a cornea transplant restores her sight. The new eyes seem to give her new life, until they prove too good to be true and she starts seeing terrifying visions of brutal murders—crimes she soon learns are all too real.

Detective Mason Brown's own brother recently died, leaving behind a horrific secret. In atonement, Mason donated his brother's organs, though he's kept the fact quiet. Now he wants to help Rachel find her brother, but when he discovers the shocking connection between her visions and his own brother, he suddenly has to do everything in his power to save her from a predator who is somehow still hunting from beyond the grave.

5.0 out of 5 stars New FRESH Story ~ Witty & Grabbing!! September 24, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
WHOA! What a fresh, original, awesomely badass novel! I was completely sucked into the story from the first page and found myself chuckling at the snarky attitude of the heroine and then swooning at the gruff, yummy police officer. I mean, its not every day you get mowed down by a cop then have to team up with him later. Right?

The settings were so real and I found myself, more than once, thinking "its like she knows my inner me!" The pacing was perfect and I had the most difficult time putting it down (and only did because I was between flights or the pesky flight attendant asked me to turn off my ereader for landing. Pfft! Let's risk it... something amazing was happening on my screen, hello??). I devoured this book and cannot wait for the next one!

The thought that a transplant patient can get memories, habits, thoughts, feelings, or even visions from their donor is both scary and incredible! I just cannot gush enough about how much I love this idea. VERY well done, Maggie!

3.0 out of 5 stars Missing something.. September 28, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Sleep with the Lights on is a paranormal thriller. Not much in the romance department and it's a continuing series which means you are left hanging on many points at the end. The plot isn't a new one, blind woman receives a cornea transplant and then suddenly starts having visions/nightmares through the eyes of the killer. The main characters are both liars too. I liked them, but the secret Detective Mason Brown chose to keep to himself was highly unethical even if he thought he was doing it for a good reason. I'm honestly torn on my feelings about this book. Even though it's a paranormal and unrealistic things happen in that type of book it wasn't clear to me exactly the who/what/why of the killer persona that manifested itself in many men. The overall story itself was interesting and there is plenty of thrilling moments but I felt unsatisfied at the end.

5.0 out of 5 stars An absolute BLAST to read!!! September 24, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition

This book was an absolute blast to read!!!! And I cannot wait to read the next one, WAKE TO DARKNESS, which is due out November 26. But first there will be a short novella released mid-October named DREAM OF DANGER, the exact date is yet to be determined.

Rachel is one of the best heroines I have ever encountered in a book. Before and after corneal transplant, she is fiercely independent, foul-mouthed like a dock-worker, loyal with family and the few friends that she has, big hearted and moody as all get out, just like a real person. She is funny as hell and doesn't beat around the bush, she has a softer side that she doesn't like to show so instead she turns prickly or flippant. This is starting to sound like a self description...... except for the part where she is young, beautiful and a very successful author!! Theeere is the reality check!

Rachel is coping with the sudden recovery of her sight really well, in fact I would say she is running with it. Even the nightmares that come with it, she seems to take in stride at first. Until there is a direct link to current events, only then does it start freaking her out. But even freaked out, she doesn't cower, she gets pissed off, angry, and determined to get to the bottom of whatever the hell is going on. With or without Mason's help. That is one strong cookie.

Myrtle is a great addition, she softens Rachel up just a tad, enough to even out the roughest edges just in case there were some who couldn't see beyond the gruff exterior. She also provides some comical relief in tense and scary circumstances.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sleep with the lights on... I had to September 26, 2013
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Well I would have had to sleep with the lights on but I couldn't put this book down long enough to sleep.this was an all night marathon clear your calendar kind of thing. I was in the edge of my seat the entire time (except when I stopped to double check the locks). This is some of Maggie's best work and I should know. I have read it all

2.0 out of 5 stars Really great Story. December 14, 2013
By Juker
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
So why not more stars—It’s like this, the language is so bad I would never recommend the book to a friend nor will I buy any more books by this author. I have found that the younger authors use “potty mouth” to embellish their books. Like throwing trash in a book makes for better reading—I don’t think so unless the reader gets into filth and personally I can do without it. I have no trouble with an occasional “hell” or “damn”, but “F” this and “F” that is way overboard. This author is intelligent and doesn't need the special???language to make the book great. Am I the only one that feels this way? Could we get a heads up while shopping as to maybe this books is really "F" filled so be warned!!!

Even so--after my comments I can say I did enjoy the book--very well written in spite of the above mentioned. Thanks for letting me express my views.

5.0 out of 5 stars My Lights Are On September 30, 2013
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Maggie Shayne has done it again. Sleep with the Lights On delivers on its promise to make me sleep with the lights on. The possibility of an organ donor's memories passing on to the recipient is creepy and Maggie gives us spine-chilling visions guaranteed to keep anyone awake. The connection between Rachel de Luca is a strong and funny heroine. Her diverse personality had me laughing at times. Detective Mason Brown has his own demons to slay, but he comes through for Rachel when she needs him.
