Sixteen-time RITA Award nominee, One-time RITA winner, former soap writer (Guiding Light, As the World Turns,) and New York Times Bestselling author Maggie Shayne published 61 novels for several major NY Publishers before launching her indie career on her own label, Thunderfoot Publishing, in 2014. That same year saw the release of her final title for Harlequin MIRA, DEADLY OBSESSION, book 4 of her award winning Brown and de Luca series of thrillers, and her first independent original novel, TWILIGHT GUARDIANS, spinning her Wings in the Night Series of vampire romances into part two, Wings in the Night: Reborn.

Maggie has released two western series on her indie label, and they are wildly popular. The Texas Brands Series, and the Oklahoma Brand Series. These two series have delighted more readers than anything Maggie has ever written, and if you like warm, small town, family oriented books, a lot of them with holiday themes, these are for you.

Maggie lives with her husband and soul mate Lance in a tiny town called Taylor (phone exchange: Truxton, mailing address: Cincinnatus, tax map: Cuyler. Smalltown folks understand!) in New York State's little known but sprawling and gorgeous dairy & wine country near the Fingerlakes region. Together they have a pair of Old English Mastiffs (Dozer & Daisy,) a chubby little bulldog (Niblet), an arrogant cat (Glorificus,) a come-lately cat who thinks he's a dog (Butters) and his mother, once we caught her, Luna aka Lulu, a saltwater reef aquariums and a life of utter contentment and joy.

Maggie has a fabulous team behind her. Her indie books, her contests and promotions, her newsletter, her indie cover art and tons more are handled by Jessica Lewis at The Author's Life Saver (.com)

Her proofreading line editing and copy editing for her indie works are handled by Jena O'Connor at Practical Proofing (.com).

She's represented by literary agent Eileen Fallon and her editor for most of the past 20 years at Harlequin was Leslie Wainger (who also has a book doctor business that's thriving on the side.) LeslieWainger-Bookdoctor (.com)

Her street team is headed up by the unsinkable Chelle Olson of Literal Addiction (.com)
Chelle also designs a lot of Shayne Swag at Chelle-Belle Designs.

WHOA! What a fresh, original, awesomely badass novel! I was completely sucked into the story from the first page and found myself chuckling at the snarky attitude of the heroine and then swooning at the gruff, yummy police officer. I mean, its not every day you get mowed down by a cop then have to team up with him later. Right?

The settings were so real and I found myself, more than once, thinking "its like she knows my inner me!" The pacing was perfect and I had the most difficult time putting it down (and only did because I was between flights or the pesky flight attendant asked me to turn off my ereader for landing. Pfft! Let's risk it... something amazing was happening on my screen, hello??). I devoured this book and cannot wait for the next one!

The thought that a transplant patient can get memories, habits, thoughts, feelings, or even visions from their donor is both scary and incredible! I just cannot gush enough about how much I love this idea. VERY well done, Maggie!

Sleep with the Lights on is a paranormal thriller. Not much in the romance department and it's a continuing series which means you are left hanging on many points at the end. The plot isn't a new one, blind woman receives a cornea transplant and then suddenly starts having visions/nightmares through the eyes of the killer. The main characters are both liars too. I liked them, but the secret Detective Mason Brown chose to keep to himself was highly unethical even if he thought he was doing it for a good reason. I'm honestly torn on my feelings about this book. Even though it's a paranormal and unrealistic things happen in that type of book it wasn't clear to me exactly the who/what/why of the killer persona that manifested itself in many men. The overall story itself was interesting and there is plenty of thrilling moments but I felt unsatisfied at the end.

This book was an absolute blast to read!!!! And I cannot wait to read the next one, WAKE TO DARKNESS, which is due out November 26. But first there will be a short novella released mid-October named DREAM OF DANGER, the exact date is yet to be determined.

Rachel is one of the best heroines I have ever encountered in a book. Before and after corneal transplant, she is fiercely independent, foul-mouthed like a dock-worker, loyal with family and the few friends that she has, big hearted and moody as all get out, just like a real person. She is funny as hell and doesn't beat around the bush, she has a softer side that she doesn't like to show so instead she turns prickly or flippant. This is starting to sound like a self description...... except for the part where she is young, beautiful and a very successful author!! Theeere is the reality check!

Rachel is coping with the sudden recovery of her sight really well, in fact I would say she is running with it. Even the nightmares that come with it, she seems to take in stride at first. Until there is a direct link to current events, only then does it start freaking her out. But even freaked out, she doesn't cower, she gets pissed off, angry, and determined to get to the bottom of whatever the hell is going on. With or without Mason's help. That is one strong cookie.

Myrtle is a great addition, she softens Rachel up just a tad, enough to even out the roughest edges just in case there were some who couldn't see beyond the gruff exterior. She also provides some comical relief in tense and scary circumstances.

Well I would have had to sleep with the lights on but I couldn't put this book down long enough to sleep.this was an all night marathon clear your calendar kind of thing. I was in the edge of my seat the entire time (except when I stopped to double check the locks). This is some of Maggie's best work and I should know. I have read it all

Loved the book.
I've read most of Shayne's books and this didn't disappoint at all. Murder, serial killer, and just enough romance all combined to make my perfect mystery book.

I am easily spooked, and have no shame in admitting it. I'm not ashamed of covering my eyes during scary movies, but can honestly say this was the first time I have ever had the urge to close my eyes while reading a book because the words on the page gave me chills. This one truly did. I loved it though! I am a big fan of Maggie Shayne's and was definitely not disappointed in the first installment in this series.

I won't go into too much detail of the story other than to say I think Rachel is one of my favorite characters in a novel ever. I love that she has this wit and sarcasm that she usually keeps hidden from the public, but those who truly know her know that she is totally not who she appears to be. The public her is sweet and positive and upbeat, but the real Rachel is sarcastic, feisty, and funny as hell, but definitely has a soft, girlie-girl side. The image my "inner camera" has of her and Myrtle together makes me laugh inside every time I think of them.

The story grabs you from the start, taking surprising twists and turns. This is no cookie cutter piece of fluff, that's for sure. I couldn't put it down, except when forced to. I was trying to figure it out the whole time and was not expecting the ending that came. There's drama, violence, a bit of romance, and definitely humor throughout.

I've heard many different ways of expressing surprise, but never have I heard the phrase, "Well, I'll be dipped." It's always fun when you can bust out laughing at something you've read and have your family look at you as though you've completely lost it for doing so. I freely admit to being easily entertained, but this may be my new favorite saying.

I am anxiously awaiting the next installment (December is too far away!) in this series. I can't wait to find out what happens next for Rachel, Mason, and Myrtle!
