I highly recommend it.,

I thought when picking this up that it would end up to be another typical chick lit story about a woman that dates a celebrity and because of the spotlight, her life goes in a downward spiral. Boy was I wrong! This was nothing like that. Sure there was the downward spiral of events that took place that had to do with rumors of Claire, the main character, sleeping with the hottest Hollywood hunk, Cole Brannon. That didn't change the fact that this book was better than books of a similar plot.
I absolutely loved this book and I can't wait to read more books from this author. I sure hope she decided to write another book.

I breezed through this book in 2 days. I really loved it! I usually hate paying 12 bucks for a book I read so fast, but I had no problems with dishing it out for this cute book. Of course it's nothing new, just girl and movie star going thru multiple hurdles to end up together(kinda like the movie Notting Hill). But her writing style was witty and fast paced and it was totally enjoyable. I would get her next book in a heartbeat! Enjoy!!

How to Make your Dreams Come True,

What a great find! I picked this up because of its title and it sounded like a fun read. I mean, who hasn't wanted to have the man of their dreams fall in love with them?
This was a great read, and I could barely put it down. I was reading it over my lunch hour, and I enjoyed it so much I decided to close my office door once I was back so I could find out what happened. Very enjoyable - great characters - and the author is a few notches above many of her contemporaries.

chick lit at its best!,

I generally do not enjoy chick lit but this was one book I could really get into. I found the characters and their personalities to be not only hilarious but quite similar to people in my own life. I know a few Sidra's!! I breezed through this book in a day and a half at the beach and immediately passed it off to one of my trip partners to enjoy. The plot is has imaginative twists and its lighthearted style makes it an enjoyable read. I'm going to be sure to keep my eye on Ms. Harmel.

It's heart was in the right place...,

'HOW TO SLEEP WITH A MOVIE STAR' has all the right ingredients to make it a modern day Cinderella story. The very handsome and exceedingly nice movie star and the cute, up and coming magazine editor who meet at an interview and are immediately drawn to each other. I thought that I was going to love this book when about fifty pages into it, movie star Cole Brannon and journalist Claire Riley first meet and the sparks begin to fly. However, the book took a turn that I wasn't quite expecting, Claire began to push this gorgeous and very sweet movie star away (who in real life would do that???) and her self-esteem seemed to get lower and lower as the book went on. Claire seemed to make a lot of irrational decisions, such as wanting to take back her cheating boyfriend just days after catching him in the act when all the while Cole was clearly pining for her, for no apparent reason. Also there wasn't a whole lot of Cole Brannon in this book, a character that I, for one, really enjoyed.
'HOW TO SLEEP WITH A MOVIE STAR's heart was definitely in the right place but unfortunately it didn't come together in the way that I had hoped. The ending was good, Cole Brannon was a gem, and Claire's best friend Wendy was the kind of friend we all wish we had but the "Cinderella story" I was looking for wasn't quite there. Overall this book gets 3 1/2 stars.

Great Book,
This review is from: How to Sleep with a Movie Star (Paperback)
I love chick lit and read it all the time, and this book is honestly one of the best I've ever read. It's impossible to put down. When you start this book, set aside enough time to read it start to finish!

Fairy Tale Flop,
By
This review is from: How to Sleep with a Movie Star (Paperback)
Claire is young, successful editor at Mod magazine. She has worked hard for her position, has a great deal of professional integrity, and seems to be "going places". The author successfully establishes all this on page two... and the remaining 334 pages are really just a tribute to Claire's self-deprecation.
Beyond being proud of her career, Claire seems to have zero self-respect. This woman spends WAY too much of her time thinking about how unacceptable she is. It seems like every third line of the book was something to the tune of "I'm not as pretty/tall/interesting/thin/glamorous/fashionable as I could be". The scene where she considers taking back a cheating ex is so cliché and made her seem so pathetic I had to skip most of it. Her repeated renouncement of the possibility that any man (besides the cheating ex) could be attracted to her is overwrought and painful to read. The volume of "no man like that could EVER be interested in someone like me" lines was insanely high. Beyond being irritating, these issues distracted from the story and made Claire very hard to like. The leading man, Cole, really sounds like a great guy--sensitive, understanding... gorgeous. But in fact, he's mind-numbingly dull. The arch-nemesis, Sidra, is a wannabe Miranda from The Devil Wears Prada. And not in a good way. The side-kick best friend, Wendy, is actually a more interesting character than Claire. I actually enjoyed HER story. In any case, this book goes beyond the happy realm of "almost-no-thought-necessary" beach reading and into the land of "absolutely-zero-thought-required" trash. And, indeed, that's where it ended up. Literally.

Get Swept Away by Cole Brannon (but Skip the Pity Party),
By
This review is from: How to Sleep with a Movie Star (Paperback)
I found this book by walking down an aisle at my local library with my eyes closed and picking up the book my hand landed on. Okay, so I didn't find anything I wanted to check out until the fourth try, but this is what I ended up with so I don't think it's a totally terrible system!
As a girl who has fantasized about quite a few movie stars in my life, this book sounded perfect for me, and I was gladly swept away in Claire's romance. Toward the end I couldn't put it down at all. It's one of those books that by the time you get to the last build-up to the climax you can't even think of stopping, so it's a good thing if you don't have to work the next day. Cole Brannon is a totally dreamy romantic lead, which certainly helps, and while it is also one of those books where you know how it's going to end on page one, I find that really good chick-lit is in how you get there, and the middle of this book definitely had a few surprises that kept me really interested. While I always knew it was going to be a happy ending (with that cover, how could it not be?), there were times when I couldn't even begin to guess how it was going to turn around. I especially liked watching as Claire grew up and found a life she could really be content in. My only complaint is that it was so painfully obvious to me (SPOILER, maybe?) that Cole was head-over-heels for Claire, and her constantly putting herself down and insisting that he couldn't possibly be was grating after a while and I began skipping entire paragraphs of her self-pitying. Otherwise, I thought she was a very realistic character, but it did get to the point where I was taken out of the story just by her complete obliviousness. A very good book. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone who's ever dreamed of being swept away by a movie star!

Somewhat of a Bridget Jones wannabe, but still not bad. Predictable but cute. Nice for an airplane ride but don't expect any surprises.

lighthearted chick lit romp,
This review is from: How to Sleep with a Movie Star (Paperback)
Earlier that day, twenty six years old Mod Magazine entertainment editor Claire Reilly interviewed movie star Cole Brannon. Soon afterward, she goes home to find her live-in boyfriend Tom sleeping with another woman. She throws the womanizing moocher out of her home, but is upset so decides to get drunk on tequila shots.
Cole happens to be at the bar too and listens to Claire's tale of woe. After she consumes too much alcohol, Cole insures she gets home safely and if Tom remains there he will kick him out. The editor and the film hunk make love. However, Claire's enemy at Mod, beauty and fashion director Sidra DeSimon informs the tabloids that Claire and Cole are an entry and writes an article on that one night stand under Claire's name. Cole feels betrayed until a gala confrontation between the two editors seems heading to a vicious cat fight. HOW TO SLEEP WITH A MOVIE STAR is a lighthearted chick lit romp starring a nice, perhaps too nice, Cole and a too bubbly even when depressed Claire. The story line focuses on Claire's skirmishes with the ever mean spirited Sidra with Cole being a side skirmish in this eternal conflict. In spite of stereotyping, sub-genre readers will appreciate this battle of the female gladiators as they war over editorial supremacy with the winner obtaining a fine prize, Cole. Harriet Klausner |
