What the......?,
By etherdome (Charleston, SC) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sleep With This Book: A step by step guide to becoming a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) (Paperback)
The title should be "How to Get into Nurse Anesthesia School: A Complete Guide from Someone who, thus far, has been unable to do it, himself". In addition, the first clue that this book isn't worth the paper it's printed on is the fact that the person intubating on the cover is doing it with the wrong hand!! Buying this book is like buying a book by Ross Perot on how to become President of the United States. Give me a break, dude!

Beware...,

This review is from: Sleep With This Book: A step by step guide to becoming a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) (Paperback)
I AM a CRNA. There is no experience like walking the long road & living with the sacrifices required to get through an anesthesia program. If you wanna know how to become a CRNA... ask one. Ask a SRNA. The resources to learn about the profession are endless. I would never rely on a book written by someone who is an 'expert by association'.

How does someone whos never done it know?,
This review is from: Sleep With This Book: A step by step guide to becoming a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) (Paperback)
Well here is the thing.
Many of us have gone through the process and many are in it. It really isnt something you can know about unless you go through it. Would you ask how bad having an appendectomy was from someone who didn't do it? Would you read a book about how to make a million dollars from someone who makes less than you? Would you get diet advice from someone who is obese? Then why would you learn what needs to be done to get into CRNA school from someone whos never done it? Enuff said.

Don't bother!,
This review is from: Sleep With This Book: A step by step guide to becoming a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) (Paperback)
I learned a valuable lesson from the purchase of this book... read the reviews. This book basically stated the obvious for anyone who is serious about becoming a CRNA. It probably would be helpful for those who have given the career a millisecond of thought, but for anyone that has decided it is what they want to do or have already started the process-- don't bother! (This book wasn't even adequately proofread before publishing, there were many obvious errors.)

Nothing New,
By MRH2202 (Costa Mesa, CA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sleep With This Book: A step by step guide to becoming a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) (Paperback)
I have been researching the CRNA path for a couple years, and this book really didn't offer any new information. In fact, some of it may be misleading. An example is his assertion that a CRNA program director might choose a 3.5 GPA student over a 3.9 GPA student if he/she had some kind of community service. This, I believe, is rationalization and maybe even wishful thinking. 3.9 students don't grow on trees, they are created with huge amounts of effort -- the same kind of effort and academic commitment is takes to be a successful SRNA. This book is not necessary for those who can do even mediocre research.

A Good Starting Place...,
By Thomas H. Williams "Tom Williams, CRNA" (Watkinsville, Georgia United States) - See all my reviews (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Sleep With This Book: A step by step guide to becoming a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) (Paperback)
This is a great starting place for the nurse who is considering anesthesia as a career. Michael Gray has done an excellent job of writing down the step-by-step process that it takes to apply to anesthesia school. I totally disagree with the harsh reviews written about this book. First of all, I am very proud to be a CRNA, and I welcome any nurse that is considering going into this awesome profession. I encourage anyone who is starting this process to purchase this book because it can truly help you. Also, I emailed the author concerning the cover illustration and he has assured me that this was a printing error(the picture was reversed) and that in subsequent printings, this defect will be corrected. I have donated this book to my hospital's medical library so that all of the nurses that work there can have access to this process. Good Job Michael Gray!

Read Message Boards Instead,

This review is from: Sleep With This Book: A step by step guide to becoming a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) (Paperback)
DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK!!!! The Author is not a CRNA, he hasn't even been accepted into CRNA school. All the "insider tips" he gives you, you can easily find on pre-CRNA message boards. Save your money, you'll need it in CRNA school!

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

I felt the book was ok, but it lacked information in many areas. I think that the key to getting into the CRNA program is good grades, high GRE scores and confidence when you interview with the admissions committee.

A bit cursory,
By Lisa Lu (Seattle, WA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sleep With This Book: A step by step guide to becoming a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) (Paperback)
This book was OK. It is written in a very casual style - almost like an email from a friend telling you about their experience in applying to the field. There's nothing wrong with that, however I felt it was so light in good, solid information. It could have delivered some sense of satisfaction if the author's personal story was developed more thoroughly. I initially bought the book because I was intrigued by the intro where the author tells of how they switched from casino dealer to pursuing a career in the field of nurse anesthesia. But, I was disappointed when this was it for story development on this front. It is a very, very quick read; I read through 90 pages (double spaced) in about an hour. With that said, I think it's a bit expensive for what it is. It gives a few good references for where to look for more extensive information, but I think you'd probably come across these on your own with a few web searches.
