5.0 out of 5 stars Great sound to block out the world
This CD is what it claims to be. The CD starts off with the sound of a train as it pulls out of the station and slowly gain speed as it travels on its track. It then contains repeating track sounds as it speeds along its way and allows you to relax to sleep, study, or read. I love reading and listening to this CD because it makes me feel as if i'm reading on a train...

2.0 out of 5 stars A Bit Disappointed
As a child I had grown up traveling by train, listening to the clunk of the gangway closing, the conductor calling "tickets", the news butcher offering playing cards, snacks and candy, and of course the sounds of the train itself, getting underway, and traveling at speed with the occasional call of the whistle and the doppler of crossing gates slipping rapidly past the...

It then contains repeating track sounds as it speeds along its way and allows you to relax to sleep, study, or read. I love reading and listening to this CD because it makes me feel as if i'm reading on a train trip. For those of us living in the USA that has never had a long train ride before, this is perfect. The CD does not contain music, it is pure train sounds. It also does not contain that white noise static sound that many sleep aid CDs have.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredibly Relaxing!!, April 10, 2007
This review is from: Sleep on a Train (Audio CD)
This is one of the best relaxation CD's I've ever fallen asleep to! As I drifted away, I felt like I was 'en route' to another world. Very nostalgic! Very soothing! I would highly recommend this CD to anyone needing to kick back and take a load off. Lullingly Wonderful!

I just want to say- pop this cd in, hit "repeat" on track number 2, and it's off to la la land.

2.0 out of 5 stars A Bit Disappointed, November 22, 2008
This review is from: Sleep on a Train (Audio CD)
As a child I had grown up traveling by train, listening to the clunk of the gangway closing, the conductor calling "tickets", the news butcher offering playing cards, snacks and candy, and of course the sounds of the train itself, getting underway, and traveling at speed with the occasional call of the whistle and the doppler of crossing gates slipping rapidly past the car window. I was hoping to return to that time with this CD, but it was not to be the case. There are the sounds of the train itself, but the distant diesel horn seems a bit too frequent, and overall, this train is much quieter and more pedestrian than is comfortable for me. As a sleep aid, it suffered near the end; I don't know if it's just this particular CD, or a problem with the burn, but toward the end, the sound of the train abruptly ceases to a silent skip, as if the original recording ended and then was restarted to stretch the sound and enable the final fade. Overall, I find the CD distracting and a disappointment, although this is admittedly a matter of expectation and of taste.

3.0 out of 5 stars Training Sounds, September 26, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Sleep on a Train (Audio CD)
As I am a senior and have ridden on trains when they were the mode of transportation of the day and remember the feels and sounds of sitting in a rail coach for many hours this was when they came to you selling food and papers to read up and down the ailse and also you could smell the coal smoke and the clickity clack and the gentle shaking of the car was something you don't get today and this tape of Sleeping on a Train is only a fraction of what you experience on THE REAL THING but at least it is a reasonable accounting of the sounds and if one has never ridden on a real train at least you can hear what it may of sounded like, but if you remember the real thing this will at least stir up memmories.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very relaxing, February 6, 2010

I bought this cd hoping to hear the sounds of a train similar to the sound of one passing near my house when I was a child. I was not disappointed. It was very relaxing and sounds of the clickty clack on the rails and a distant whistle with all aboard to start it off. I put it in my cd player at night and before it has played very long, I am sound asleep!

I own several "sound effect" disks that I use to help me concentrate when I'm reading or writing. Very quickly after I bought this one from Amazon, it became my favorite. The sound narrative is great -- from the "all aboard!" of the conductor to the acceleration of the train out of the station to the quick Doppler-effect sound of crossing signals as you race by. Appropriately, the vast majority of the disk consists of the steady clickety-clack of the rails, punctuated periodically by the train whistle in the distance. The sonics are a little less than perfect, in that there's a slight crackle once or twice. But that's a small price to pay to have a real train recording like this, not synthetic like the "train" on a sound machine and (importantly) with no loops. I'm extremely pleased with this disk.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mesmerized, January 10, 2009

I truly go into a trance while I am listening to this cd on my ipod! It is easy to pretend that I am a child on a train to California again. My only criticism is that the train whistle blows every 35 seconds in some sections of the cd and I wish that I could delete those!

This CD is perfect! It's real. For those of us who remember train rides, it gives us a chance to experience again the relaxation and unwinding of riding the rails. Read, rest, nap, sleep, enjoy!
