5.0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Anthology..., January 9, 2002
By
This review is from: Sleep Walkers and other stories: The Arab in Hebrew Fiction (Paperback)
For anyone who is interested in the Arab-Israeli conflict... THIS IS THE BOOK! It is an amazing book which illustrates beautifully the intricate Arab-Israeli conflict. The stories consist of an amalgamation of themes; the stories are not restricted merely to the violent aspects of the Arab-Israeli conflict but also depict the more "humane" aspects - such as in the story of Moshe Smilansky "Latifa" which tells of a doomed courtship between a Jewish boy and a Palestinian girl. "Sleepwalkers" by Jacob Buchan,is also a great story depicting the social and sexual conflict between the opposing parties. Recommendation: The best excerpt comes from the novel "Refuge" by Sami Michael - (buy the entire novel!) - it is one of the best modern Middle Eastern books I have read. Amazing anthology - great lit!!!!
