Best that I've tried but not perfect,

I've tried several at home bite guards. The ones you boil are huge on me and I can't talk or even close my mouth.
I've got a relatively small mouth and sensitive gums so I first tried the low profile version. While it was far more comfortable than the boiled variety, I seemed to chew through them in no time. I have since switched to the regular style which rubs my gums and the inside of my cheek a little, but seems much sturdier. In general, this is my bite guard of choice. It's pretty affordable (shop around, there are deals to be had) allows me to hold a conversation with my partner, and is relatively discrete, at least compared to others I've tried. On the down side, it still chafes my mouth a little, the mint flavor only lasts for a couple weeks and really doesn't taste that good to start with and because the pad is only covering some of my teeth, it puts irregular pressure on the teeth which tends to make my mouth a little more sore the next day. Still, I'll take this over any other option I've found.

Best I've used yet,

I have used night guards of all types for many years. I have paid $500 for the custom fit plastic guards from dentists to $20 for "The Doctor's" boil-to-fit guards (which I could never find a size that quite fit right and several times ruined them in the process of boiling and fitting). All of them usually ended up somewhere besides my mouth within a few hours of going to sleep. Regardless of price, none of them lasted much longer than 1-2 months for me. And, with the boil-to-fit guards, they are such a hassle that I found myself going without.
I found this product on sale somewhere for $29 and figured it worth a try. I have been using for two months and have yet to wake up without it still in my mouth. It works great, fits comfortably and has held up reasonably well. Though, I am certain it won't make it the three months they guarantee it for so we'll see how many times they will replace it under warranty. Don't fault this product though - every dentist I've seen says I have the worst grinding problem they have seen. I usually crack their professional versions w/in a week. This would get 5-stars except the price is 2x other over-the-counter offerings and the guaranteed durability for average users is only 3-months. If this was always $29 or closer to $20, definitely a 5-star product. BTW - Target wants over $5 to ship this. That's nearly 15% of the cost of the product, then add sales tax. Really bad. I'd never recommend anyone buy somewhere off Amazon because of the trust factor, but either Amazon should start carrying this product or Target should get their shipping down.

parts need to be more sturdier,

The PROS:
1. I like the design 2. in my case the unit fit my mouth quite well. 3. not as noticeable (annoying) when wearing, as other mouthguards out there. The CONS: 1. bite pieces should be made of harder materials. I only got about 30-45 days out of mine, before the plastic pieces (2 plastic parts that you bite on) were almost cut in half. My .02 cents of these items. First, the degree to which Bruxism affects people is very "Subjective". In which case I still have not encountered a true "One-size-fits-all" product that worked very long. I would like to see at least 3 styles of sets, of plastic bite parts. I mean, after all, the price of the amount of plastic involved is like pennies. 1. Ideally they should offer a sort of "starter set" that would provide 3 different sets of bite pieces. a. One set of soft b. One set of medium hard c. One set of almost indestructible bite pieces. Personally to prevent night grinding: 1. I went back to the $1 or $2 ones from walmart/kmart. The adult style of "boil for 30 seconds until the plastic is software, then bite into them". For under $20 bucks (at 1 per each month) you would have a years worth of mouth guards. I change them out at every 2-4 weeks. 2. Rotate them occasionally and have you dentist monitor your teeth. (my dentist had a million reasons why her "$1 piece of plastic, which she would be selling me at $200+, was so superior to my home made mouthguard. Naturally her mouthguard was NOT covered by insurance). 3. IMPORTANT: If you can link your grinding to an underlying stressor, try to address the "reason" you might be grinding. 4. when the dentistal assistant, or dentist, tries to pressure you to buy their "professionally made" mouthguards at $200+, tell them you want them to give you a lifetime WARRANTY with lifetime replacements; Only then will you "possibly" consider it. 5. You know these 50 cents pieces of plastic they try to sell you for $200+ are most likely NOT going to last any longer than the $1 to $15 ones from walmart. Ask them how many of those seminars they have attended on the subject of,"Making an extra $250K a year selling extras, upsells and add-on services" Dentist are becoming like the chiroprators and used car salemen. Going to all these "how to increase you bottom line" type seminars. Make $250,000 your 1st first year, blah, blah. I got sick of having to deal with the constant barrage of upsells (when all I wanted was my teeth cleaned) I'd walk into my dentist office and the cleaning tech bombards you with teeth whitening, or cosmsetic procedures. Then an Xray tech takes you for Xrays and they have their sales pitch also. I don't begrudge someone getting ahead in the biz world, just don't be so greedy. I mean really. $200+ for a $2 or $3 piece of plastic. No wonder so many of the so called "neccesities" dentist want to do to you are NOT covered by your dental insurance. Good luck in your search for a mouthguard which you would rate as a 5-star
