Sleep Tight,
By Little Willow (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sleeper Code (Part 1 in the Sleeper Conspiracy) (Paperback)
Government conspiracies, assassins, action, adventure, and narcolepsy. What's not to love? From the mind of novelist Tom Sniegoski comes The Sleeper Conspiracy, a two-book series packed with action.
For as long as he can remember, a young boy named Tom has struggled narcolepsy, a sleeping disorder that causes him to fall asleep for days at a time. Fearful that he will have an attack in public, his parents have homeschooled him for years. Now in his late teens, his calm but sheltered life is shattered when he discovers that everything he believes is a lie. He isn't narcoleptic - he is an assassin created by an anti-government group. Now his life and the lives of everyone he knows are in danger. The Sleeper Conspiracy by Tom Sniegoski is a page-turner. These books have the makings of a high-velocity action movie. It will definitely appeal to readers of Tom Clancy novels and the Alex Rider series by Anthony Horowitz, as well as fans of Alias and 24. Who are the good guys? Who are the bad guys? What will happen to Tom? Start the story with Sleeper Code, finish it with Sleeper Agenda - and keep looking over your shoulder as you read.

Sleeper Code Review,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Sleeper Code (Part 1 in the Sleeper Conspiracy) (Paperback)
I would like to start out this review with saying it is the greatest book I've ever read!
This book is about a teenage boy named Tom Lovett. Tom has had a horrible sleeping disease called Quentins Narcolepsy. This keeps him to be like a normal kid. He comes to find out later in the book that the sleeping disorder is the least of his worries. Tom's whole life has been a lie. Tom finds out that the narcolepsy is just a cover to his real life. Tom is kind of a science experiment made to kill whenever a narcoleptic attack was triggered, by the madman named kavanaugh who created his assasin personality.Tom comes to uncover the lies that make up his life. If you like action packed books full of many mysteries this is the book for you. I loved this book and recomend it to everyone. You have got to read this book.

Sleeper Code review by: Jess R.,
By Laura James (Charleston, SC) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sleeper Code (Part 1 in the Sleeper Conspiracy) (Paperback)
As the progression of scientific development brings forth new controversial concepts, mankind is faced with the consequences of their own curiosity. This book, Sleeper Code, explores one of the many potential government conspiracies from the perspective of a relatable teenage character, Tom Lovett. Due to his rare disorder, Quentin's Narcolepsy, Tom finds himself spontaneously falling asleep. This inevitable fate seemed to him to be nothing more than part of the routine until he discovers it is nothing more than a lie.
Tom, who was once limited by his disorder, discovers that his rare condition has been exploited by a small branch of weapons development called Pandora. In their eternal quest for a more potent weapon, Pandora discovered a method of mind control that can be used to create a perfect weapon. The individuals with Tom's rare condition can be physiologically changed from the average human mentality to a sociopath with the trigger of a narcoleptic attack. Although the scientists of Pandora have revolutionized weapons development, corruption is accompanied with their discovery. The discreet antagonist Brandon Kavanah is able to sell their soldiers to highest bidders unidentified. This ever-present endeavor ensures an interesting and erratic plot. One weakness of the book was the end's predictability. Although the plot itself was intriguing, I found that the general ending was somewhat of a let down compared to the preceding engrossing plot line. Overall, Sleeper Code was very compelling for the reader. It provoked much thought and left the reader craving more of the enticing plot. It also brought forth a new perspective of man's true potential for knowledge, and man's true aptitude for evil as science progresses.

How would you like living with the constant threat of falling asleep for days at a time? In Sleeper Code by Tom Sniegoski is an incredible book that I would recommend to most anyone. I love how the author came up with the split persona idea where one persona is a normal kid and the other is a cold-hearted killer. My favorite character was probably Tyler Garrett, just because I think it is awesome how much he knows and how he acts. The character that I feel is the most believable, though, is Tom Lovett, because his reactions are completely believable and expected. I like the Sniegoski will focus on one character, and then switch to another's view, while staying in the third person point of view. This is a science/realistic fiction book, and there is a sequel, Sleeper Agenda, to this book. I would recommend this book to most any teenager or young adult, and I think it is excellent for anyone going through a rough time, because it shows how you can get through it and also shows that you should learn to accept who you are and move on.

Welcome to the world of Tom Lovett. At sixteen, Tom is homeschooled, but not for the reasons that many students are. No, Tom is homeschooled because his parents don't believe that he can function in a normal high school. Because Tom has narcolepsy, a disease that makes him fall asleep at any moment, and sometimes for days at a time. These attacks, as he calls them, haven't happened in over two weeks, and he's determined to get his parents to let him attend a public school. But when he also mentions that he's stopped taking his medication that's supposed to help control his narcoleptic attacks, all hell breaks loose.
What's worse than losing days, though, is the very real dreams he's started to have about murder. More specifically, murders he's committing. At first Tom believes that they're just dreams, very real hallucinations made up by his miswired brain, tricks that are being played on him. Then Tom finds out that he's not really going crazy. Even worse, he really has committed murder--several times, in fact, since he's a trained assassin. It seems that his narcolepsy isn't just a disease he was born with, but a carefully orchestrated part of a plot to keep his sleeping self away from his waking self. Suddenly the life he thought was looking up, especially since Madison Fitzgerald moved in next door, is going downhill fast. Unable to believe that he's two distinct personalities living in the same body, Tom is determined to prove his dreams are wrong. What happens instead, though, is a long descent into murder, destruction, and mayhem. Mr. Sniegoski has taken a totally original concept and turned it into an action-packed story that will have you turning pages long into the night. Once you realize exactly who and what Tom is, you can't help but be equally horrified and interested in this young man. As Madison and her family also become targets for Tom's clandestine organization, as Tom learns that his parents aren't his parents but instead handlers, and as he becomes determined to break free from his other identity once and for all, the story takes on mythic proportions. Once you read SLEEPER CODE, you'll be dying to read SLEEPER AGENDA, the second book in the THE SLEEPER CONSPIRACY. This is definitely a book for all action-adventure lovers!
