3.0 out of 5 stars only for Gennita's fans
Gennita's latest SEAL hero, Reed, is yummy but that's the only thing that got me in Sleeping With the Agent. I did not care for Lily in the previous book and though her this is *her* book, I still did not take to her.

Overall, I found this book just average and I consider myself a huge Gennita Low fan. It lacked the complexity and substance I found in her...

Llallana "Lily" Noretski is on the run, she has no one to trust. She is afraid that whatever the CIA did to her will now make her turn on those she holds dear. All Lily cares about now is getting those abused young girls to a better life. When Lily is unable to obtain all the necessary passports for travel she makes an uneasy alliance with a gun smuggling handsome stranger.

Navy Seal Reed Vincenzio is brought in on a joint mission to bring Lily in or to eliminate her. Lily was activated from a sleep cell months ago and has a dangerous device in her possession. Reed is a highly skilled sharpshooter and normally a job like this would be a snap for him. But getting to know Lily has made Reed unsure about his Intel on this mission. Reed tries to keep a tight rein on Lily but Lily isn't used to depending on anyone.

As these two form an alliance the danger to Lily intensifies. Reed has fallen for this exotic beauty and will risk all to save her.

Sleeping With The Agent is a trill a minute read. It's enthralling both in the intrigue, passion and deep friendships. Ms. Low really made Lily a likeable character, you can feel her anguish about her past deeds. Reed and Lily's growth in trust and as lovers is exceptional.

Looking forward to the next book for this author. Hoping someday to read T and Alex's story..

5.0 out of 5 stars Great suspense, December 30, 2005

This review is from: Sleeping With the Agent (Crossfire Series, Book 3) (Mass Market Paperback)
Navy Seal Reed Vincenzio's first encounter with Llallana "Lily" Noretski takes place deep in the night while he was on a practice mission in the mountains of Macedonia and she was traveling through those same mountains, attempting to smuggle several young women out of the country to protect them from a grim future of sexual slavery and mind control. The last thing Reed expected as he watched her pass by from his hidden perch was for her to pick up on his location and fire upon him and his men with an Uzi before taking off. Two months later Lily is starting to worry about getting her young charges to safety. Her cash is dwindling and she still doesn't have all of the passports necessary to get the girls safely out of the country. Once again Reed is thrown into Lily's life, this time with an undercover identity intended to intercept Lily, but not because of her mission to help the vulnerable and traumatized girls, but because she is a sleeper, programmed to detonate a deadly bomb upon hearing a secret command. Lily has no clue that Reed was the target of her random shooting that night in the mountains. This time Lily is the target and Reed is the sharpshooter who is expected to keep close watch over her and to utilize his incredible shooting skills at the slightest provocation. Once Reed meets Lily and begins to understand the extent of her victimization and abuse, he isn't so sure that he will follow orders if he is given the command to eliminate her. Lily is terrified of what has been programmed into her brain and distrusts everyone around her, wishing for nothing more than a life of peace and security that looks far beyond her reach. Gennita Low takes readers on a non-stop, thrill-packed ride with SLEEPING WITH THE AGENT. This is the third book in a series and as I did not read the other two books, I can vouch for this book's ability to stand on its own. Reed and Lily are two of the most intensely written, intricate characters that I have ever read. The secondary characters are equally well-written and intriguing. So intriguing, as a matter of fact, that I intend to obtain and read the first two books in this series in the very near future. I give this book my highest recommendation it is definitely one that I will enjoy re-reading. COURTESY LAURIE/ROMANCE JUNKIES

5.0 out of 5 stars Thrilling Intrigue and Sensually Stimulating - Oh Yeah!, January 17, 2006

(VINE VOICE)    (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Sleeping With the Agent (Crossfire Series, Book 3) (Mass Market Paperback)
Lily Noretski is beautiful and dangerous. She'd been betrayed by the CIA - people who were supposed to be helping her - and turned into a `sleeper cell'. While under another's control, Lily had betrayed the only friend she'd ever known. Now on the run, Lily was in possession of a destructive weapon that had to be recovered before an enemy handler could contact her and use it to upset world power.

After a Special US Ops team (GEM) located Lily, Navy SEAL sharpshooter Reed Vicenzio was assigned the task of getting close, winning Lily's trust, finding the weapon, and if need be, `taking her out'. Reeds normally dispassionate nature was aroused not only by Lily's courageous strength, but her beauty. The closer he got, Reed recognized her compassion and courage as she worked to get `her girls' - sex slave victims, like she had once been, to safety.

It was a supreme effort for Lily to trust, but she was discovering that the enigmatic man who kept saving her life seemed more than able to fit the bill. Knowing that someone was trying to manipulate her head, Lily fought her way out of the fog trying to complete her own self-appointed mission. Though danger appeared at every corner, Lily only began to feel safe when enclosed in Reed's arms. For both, the price they would pay for their passion could come at a deadly cost.

-- Discovering Low's Crossfire trilogy in this, the final book, I can certainly understand the praise this writers generating of her exciting and intensely suspenseful thrillers! This was a roller coaster ride from beginning to end starring two captivating protagonists. Reed is that totally alpha male - an awesome and yummy hero! While it did take me a bit of time to come up to speed with the numerous characters and incidents mentioned from the previous books in the Crossfire trilogy, I was quickly immersed in the adventure and thoroughly enjoyed the thrill of the rollercoaster, which I recommend lovers of suspenseful intrigue to hop on board for the ride!

5.0 out of 5 stars Strong heroine and delectable hero!, December 30, 2005

I wasn't sure, after "The Hunter" that I could or would like Lilly - (Amber's traitor-friend in THE HUNTER.) Of course, when you find out she's been used by the CIA, as a sleeper (someone who can be hypnotically altered with a phone-call) you begin to have some sympathy for her. Now I wasn't too sure I would like this entire "sleeper" concept - - but if anyone can do it properly and believably - Gennita Low can! Not only do you feel for Lilly, you wind up cheering for her and wishing her a happy ending.

Enter Reed "Joker" from the STAR team. Reed is another extremely "yummy" alpha-male from Gennita's world of SEALS, spies and intrigue. When you meet Reed, you'll find yourself promptly adding him to your list of "Men you would like to meet in real life." He's Alpha, he's sensitive, he's adorable and of course, he's hot.

I think one of my favorite things about SLEEPING WITH THE AGENT is that our hero and heroine don't do anything stupid. They are never annoying and they are two very different individuals, worthy of their counterpart. The story-line is intriguing and the cast of characters are interesting and likeable. Another good read I'd highly recommend.

Thanks for another "Keeper" Ms. Low!

4.0 out of 5 stars Back on track, but maybe new character motivation/story devices due?, January 1, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Sleeping With the Agent (Crossfire Series, Book 3) (Mass Market Paperback)
Having read all 5 books of GL's Navy SEAL series now, I am relieved that the last two have gotten back on track, after a disappointing effort in the anemic third book, The Protector.

Book 4, The Hunter, had more fleshed-out, appealing characters and enough action to keep me interested and not give up on the series. It also introduced the lead character in Sleeping With the Agent, Lily Noretski, the edgy, mysterious friend who almost stole reader's interest away from Amber, the lead in The Hunter.

Sleeping With the Agent was an absorbing, one-sitting read. I would have given it 5 stars, but, to be honest, I am finally getting just a bit weary of the human trafficking plot device of the last 4 books of the series -all having heroines who spend their time rescuing abused young girls. Even book 2 shares the "brainwashed" heroine device found in the last 2 books -this character also makes an appearance in Sleeping With the Agent- adding to the "too much in common/what a bizarre coincidence/this is getting a mite old" feeling when reading the series as each SEAL meets and ends up with the love of their life after some peril and action. Let's hope the human trafficking and/or brainwash themes wrap up for good with Sleeping With the Agent ... they have run their course, now.

5.0 out of 5 stars action-packed SEALS thriller, December 27, 2005
This review is from: Sleeping With the Agent (Crossfire Series, Book 3) (Mass Market Paperback)
After going deep undercover pretending to be a traitor to stop the evil Dilaver, Navy SEAL commander Hawk McMillan only accomplished one of his two assignments (see THE HUNTER). He stopped the villain, but he failed to capture a deadly weapon as he chose to save the life of the woman he loves, CIA operative Amber Hutchins. The only lead is CIA former sleeper agent Lily Noretski who everyone seeks because she has the weapon. Lily betrayed Amber and apparently has no control over her actions as she has been brainwashed and more by the agency.

Hawk's Navy SEAL subordinate Reed Vincenzio is chosen to make contact, get the weapon, and kill Lily, if necessary. From the first moment they "meet" they share an uncanny sense of knowing when the other is near. While Lily tries to sneak girls used as sex pawns by Dilaver out of Kosovo, Reed begins the tango with her. As they fall in love, she fears her handler activating her as a killing machine which would place Reed in peril while he worries that if he fails to kill her he jeopardizes the mission if her handler turns her rogue.

The final of the action-packed SEALS trilogy (see THE PROTECTOR) is a fabulous climax that stars two protagonists who are in love, but distrust one another; she because she has been betrayed with lies and false memories by those she trusted and he because he knows who she is. No wonder Cheney and the CIA want to kill the McCain bill as some of the dark procedures rationalized as combating the terrorists sacrifice people as expendable. The lead couple SEALS to a T this Gem of a romantic thriller.

This review is from: Sleeping With the Agent (Crossfire Series, Book 3) (Mass Market Paperback)
This is one of Gennita's better books. After the last two i was starting to lose a little of my interest, but i must say that this one saved the day. A combination of both a strong hero and a strong heroine made the book a winner. Both Reed and Lily have their own quirky senses of humor. The "love scenes" were good, but in comparison with "Into Danger" and Facing Fear" they were kind of tame. However, the witty conversations and the enchanting plot carried the novel. I, and many of her other fans, are anxiously awaiting Alex and T.'s book, both of which made an interesting appearence near the end of SWTA. We want to see Jed and Hell as well, so although the wait seems endless, we wish Ms. Low the best of compliments and godspeed!

4.0 out of 5 stars What's with Lily?, December 8, 2006

This review is from: Sleeping With the Agent (Crossfire Series, Book 3) (Mass Market Paperback)
In "The Hunter" Lily was quick, independent & didn't let anyone interfere with her goals. In "Sleeping With the Agent" she became clingy, wimpy & allowed Reed to lead her around and make decisions for her. To me this character was ruined & a book I was looking forward to a disappointment.

I gave it a four because of the inclusion of other characters that were more interesting than the leads. Lily never seemed to catch on to the fact that Reed came into this assignment with every intention of killing her. Color me crazy but that would be a relationship breaker to me.

4.0 out of 5 stars good but not her best..., January 27, 2006
This review is from: Sleeping With the Agent (Crossfire Series, Book 3) (Mass Market Paperback)
I'm not going to be redundant and tell you the plot - others do that well here and we all have things to do. I sometimes wonder if we're all reading the same books, however. I am definitely a big fan of Ms. Low and I would rate all of her books as solid 4 1/2s or 5s - The Hunter was amazing! I disagree that the love scenes were tepid - they weren't. And there was great depth of character that she revealed in Amber and Hawk while not inundating us with boring minutiae. Instead, it was all go go go with a good laugh thrown in (I loved his burger order). With this book, however, I found myself to be disappointed somewhat. It's still good (hence the 4*) but I think that it's missing the depth of plot and characterization that Ms. Low has revealed in her other work. She has spoiled us to expect the best in this type of novel and hasn't been afraid to explore darker parts of her characters. I thought the idea of having Lily as the main character was a good one, especially since we're all waiting for Jed (and I bet the next one will be Brad Sun). I just got the feeling that Ms. Low ran out of things to say about Lily, as if she, herself, wasn't sure what to do with the character or how to portray her to make her both sympathetic and complex. And Reed was fairly shallowly drawn, I thought. Others clearly disagree. If I hadn't read the other novels and enjoyed them so much I may not be disappointed now; unfortunately, this seemed a little too churned out for my tastes with not enough thought behind it (and the editing could have been tighter). I look forward to her next novel, though, and am sure that it will be as enjoyable as most of Ms. Low's work remains.
