Book Description

January 15, 2008
The tale of Sleeping Beauty is true. There was actually a princess, and an evil fairy queen, and a terrible cursed spinning wheel. It did happen... so long ago that it's remembered now only as a "fairy tale". In real life, though, there was no magic kiss and no happy ending. The princess just kept sleeping, hidden away as the world moved on. Now, brothers Jasen and Corey Stillwell have stumbled upon the hiding place of the sleeping princess and awakened her. They find themselves suddenly caught in the middle of a centuries-old tale of magic and danger, struggling to survive against the wrath of an evil fairy queen that will stop at nothing to see the princess gone forever. It will take luck, courage, and a little magic if they hope to beat the odds and break the ancient curse to make their own "happily ever after."

More About the Author

Although born in Georgia, I grew up in the small town of Monroe, New York... nestled in the secluded Catskills much like the fictional town of Jacob's Rest in my first novel. I now live in Covington, Georgia with my wife, Lisa, and two wonderful daughters, Victoria and Michelle.

Writing is a passion, but not a profession for me. I work as a full-time instructional technology specialist at General Ray Davis Middle School and for over a decade I've written educational software for students of all ages that is used in schools around the world. You can find out more at www.gepetosoftware.com.

I have a fantastic publisher, Autumn Harbor Press (www.autumnharbor.com), which has published three of my books. These three young adult novels comprise the "Sleeping Beauty Overslept" trilogy which is availbale here on Amazon.com and worldwide.

5.0 out of 5 stars A thoroughly enjoyable read!, April 13, 2008
By
This review is from: Sleeping Beauty Overslept (Paperback)
This first novel by Joe Tompkins is a delightful read. It is a modern rendition of the Sleeping Beauty story, with many twists and turns. I found myself completely caught up in the action of the story; in fact, I finished reading the book the day after I bought it because I couldn't put it down. While I liked all the characters, I especially liked Corey, the narrator's brother. Maybe I like him because he reminds me so much of so many students I've had! The author has done a great job of making the characters realistic and likable, even the magical fairies. The action in the book doesn't stop; there is very little "down time" for Jasen, Corey, Elayne, and Emily. Throughout all that happens in the novel, humor is present, giving the book just enough of a light-hearted feel without making it too stress-filled. I think this book will definitely appeal to young adult readers.
