3.0 out of 5 stars A good Americana release by an Aussie, April 24, 2005

Marcus Thell (Jönköping, Sweden) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sleeping With the Blues (Audio CD)
Australian Bill Chambers is probably most known for being the father of Kasey Chambers. But now he has released a solo-CD (he has previously released a duet-CD "Lookin' Back To See" with Audrey Auld that I reviewed in SCC-Nytt no. 1/2001). Bill has Kasey singing on one track and Audrey does a new duet with him also. Bill has written all but 3 of the 12 songs here. His voice and style is a bit like hoarse songwriter John Prine. The CD has many styles, but mostly in traditional country. This is a good traditional country-CD that shows us that good country music can come from anywhere in the world, not just from the U.S. The CD along with more good music can be bought at www.recklessrecords.com

5.0 out of 5 stars I often wondered about Bill Chambers..., April 20, 2005

This review is from: Sleeping With the Blues (Audio CD)
Whenever the Dead Ringer Band came to town I was there. What a great family group, they were always better than good. Bill's daughter Kasey was 'discovered' and Bill seemed suddenly to be everywhere, playing with other musicians, doing gigs on his own - wow - excellent guitar, great lap steel and an amazingly gruff growly voice just like country music singers used to sound. And can he write songs! Oh yes. Sleeping With The Blues is one mighty fine album. You can put it in your player and each time you listen it gets better then before - ask me to pick a favourite song and I couldn't. A pleasure to play from go to whoa. Easy to see where Kasey got her talent.

5.0 out of 5 stars too cool, August 9, 2003
This review is from: Sleeping With the Blues (Audio CD)
"Sleeping with the Blues" is an outstanding recording! All the songs are great. Not one you'll want to skip over. Bill is a wonderful guitar player ( acoustic, electric, dobro and slide). His voice has a rough edge, but it works exceedingly well with the songs on the CD.

Everybody I know that has listened to it has take'n a liking to it! My sister says every song make her cry... well, I don't quite see that, with "Big Ass Garage Sale" (Fred Eaglesmith song) and all.

I was lucky enough to see Bill Chambers and Audrey Auld in Austin (at Threadgills World Headquarters) recently. Magnificent show! Be sure to check out the "Greencards" and Catherine Britt.

Bill Chambers is top notch. Try Bill and Audrey's "Looking Back to See" for old fashioned Honky Tonk fun!!!!
