5.0 out of 5 stars Mortuary Madness Is Demented Fun :D October 29, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
This was a quirky dark comedic romp into morbidity and the darker side of fun. The main character is easily related to by the reader no matter what she happens to be up to at that given moment in time. What would you do to fulfill your hopes and dreams? I don't think I would ever go that far but then I don't have the resources she does or the desperation. Her mother is an interesting character that seems like she wishes she never had the burden of a child of she never really wanted.

I really enjoyed the quick paced action and suspense as they kept the plot tripping ahead with nary a beat missed. This was(I am pretty sure)a stand alone novel though I would enjoy more books in this vein. The humor was original and immensely entertaining. I would love to be friends with the main character but I sure would not want to disappoint or annoy her ... much less get on her bad side :D I am really interested in what this author is going to do next.

** this book is suitable for young adult through adult readers

4.0 out of 5 stars Good read! August 5, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
How far would you go to get what you want?

Paige, about to graduate high school and move away from the mother that she feels never loved her, is about to answer that question when she is faced a terrible decision, one that will tip her over the edge.

Paige seems like a regular girl, except for the fact that she lives in a morgue. She has a best friend, Shelby - The mayor's daughter. She has a boyfriend, Brock who is a cop and the mayor's son. And she has a dream to escape her life. She wants to go to Harvard. Lots of people know about her dream but no one pays enough attention to her to even remember what university she wants to go to.

I finished this book in one sitting. I wanted to know how and why Paige was making the decisions she was. Frankly, I wanted to know what was going to happen next.

While this book is aimed at the young adult crowd, it is written in third person limited. I would have liked it more if it had been in first person as the story really lent itself to an unreliable narrator. That said, I had a pretty clear understanding of what was going on in Paige's head and why she felt compelled to continue the way she had.

I was still left with some questions as I was reading and the ending was a little too quick in my mind, but overall, the book was a good quick read and would probably be enjoyed by my students.

More About the Author

I love writing. I really do. Anything. From letters to my children to feature length screenplays to novels. It's a love that dates back to my childhood and the passion for literature my mother instilled in me. She always said, "You can go anywhere in a book. You can be anybody."

Have a wonderful day and happy reading!

"Jennifer Tressen is a wife, mother and writer. A former actor, she spent nearly ten years in the entertainment industry appearing in commercials, print ads and television shows. It was her love of storytelling that pushed her to the other side of the camera and sent her to film school at Chapman University. Although she entered as a Cinematography major, Jennifer graduated with a degree in Screenwriting after a single required screenwriting class forever changed her path. She found a passion for writing she had forgotten in her childhood. Everything she learned about screenwriting and especially storytelling she attributes to her mentor, the late Blake Snyder.

After several years of writing and editing for producers and other screenwriters her curiosity led her into writing novels. As a huge fan of Young Adult and New Adult literature this is where her pen tends to lead her. However, she does have plans to release a few middle grade fiction and adult novels in the future.

Jennifer is also the current series writer for a soon to be released animated children's television show 'Max and Wrigley.'"
