Editorial Reviews

Review

"Well crafted twists and turns kept me completely enthralled and unwilling to put it down." by D. Olson

From the Author

I've had several people ask me if this book is based on a true story. My quick answer is, "Well, no, it's fiction." The longer answer is that I did a lot of research before and during the months I wrote the manuscript. While investigating, I met women who went through similar situations and experienced parallel fates. So, while this is a work of fiction, and isn't based on any one particular person, place, or circumstance, "Sleeping Roses" is inspired by real women.

The ending was really a surprise. lou  |  45 reviewers made a similar statement
I feel like the story could use some "filling out", with a bit more detail and for sure better editing. Jaime Salvatori  |  26 reviewers made a similar statement

5.0 out of 5 stars Sleeping Roses a must read book! June 16, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I'm not sure of the last time I've read a book that has kept me so intrigued from beginning to end. I can't give spoilers, but will say that you will not believe the ending of this story. It will make you cry, think, and then gasp and leave you with the feeling that things aren't always what they seem. This is my first time reading this author and she impressed me greatly. I'd give this book ten stars if Amazon had them, it was really that good.

4.0 out of 5 stars What an ending June 18, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
A dream is fleeting
True love, divine
Your life is your own
It's all in your mind.

It's all in your mind indeed. This book starts making you think as if you're one of the characters and you catch yourself choosing sides. Yes, it's logical to be on Sophie's side. She is akin to the victim. But what if David had reasons for why he behaved the way he did? Sounds suspicious? Well, I can't tell you more than what I think or I'll be ruining the ending for you.

Initially, there is a sense of security about the way David looks out for Sophie. Maybe, he's just a little over-protective you think. And then the layers start peeling off and in its place you see a sinister being.

The only reason this book loses one star from me is because of the formatting. The fonts tend to switch when the perspectives change and after a few chapters of this, it becomes irritating. Asterisks or some form divider instead of changing fonts maybe? But this is a matter of preference and has little to do with RaShelle's fantastic writing skills.

Looking for something to read this weekend? Then, I recommend this.

Overall assessment:
Story: 4/5
Characters: 4/5
Editing: 4/5
Formatting: 4/5
Pacing: 4/5
Offensive content?: Yes, I would rate it PG13

1.0 out of 5 stars Horrible.. bad writing, ridiculous characters. August 11, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I bought this for 99 cents and thought I overpaid.. after all the good reviews I was expecting a twisty mystery, and instead it's completely a mystery how this got published!!! It's like no one edited it, the characters are unlikable, and then ending was completely unrealistic and rushed. I was so frustrated by the story (decribing the Melting Pot like the copied it from their website?) that I flipped ahead and got it over with quicker. Don't buy this one.

1.0 out of 5 stars Seriously awful! August 3, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
The writing in this book is atrocious! How on earth did this book ever get published? I think a grade-schooler could have written a better novel. Don't waste your money - even 99 cents. If you appreciate decent authors of romantic suspense such as Saundra Brown, Lisa Jackson, Heather Graham, and Allison Brennan, just to name a few, you will find this book quite laughable. And...the heroine is ridiculously stupid. Reader beware!

2.0 out of 5 stars This is not a mystery!! August 12, 2012
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I'm not sure how this book ended up being described as a mystery. But it is not a mystery. It's a romance, and a poorly written one at that. The characters are poorly developed, the plot is boring, and the author seems to have not been paying attention to time, sometimes making it appear as months and sometimes days. The one and only reason I kept reading is that some of the reviews mentioned a twist in the story at the end. So I kept plodding on, hoping the "twist" was worth the hours it took to get there. It wasn't worth it. I'm glad I only paid 99 cents, and it was barely worth that.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not worth the time!! July 17, 2012
By Anree
Format:Kindle Edition
Badly written ... also this book is not a mystery/suspense. It's a fiction dream. No investigations... no murderer... no suspense. Don't waste your valuable time.

2.0 out of 5 stars Sleeping Thorns! July 14, 2012
By I.A.
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Sorry, the story might be OK, but the actual sentence structure is very bad. For example: "You know I don't care about men. I've moved on from them long ago. We both have heads with brains, but they don't use the one on their shoulders but use the little one between their legs with no brain." Whoa! Really, did you have to spell that out all the way to the end? We knew where you were headed with this when you started the sentence, so why type it out in all the banal detail? She continues: "That's why I've moved on to the better of the two species." Didn't she mean to write, "That's why I've moved on to the better of the two sexes"? Last time I checked--despite all their flaws--men were still Homo sapiens! If you're a stickler for grammar and correct usage, or simply can't overlook it, pass on this.

1.0 out of 5 stars wrong genre for police procedural August 8, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Definitely got put in the wrong genre here. this is not a mystery/police procedural, it is a crappy sappy romance with a whingy whiny spineless "heroine" and occasionally falls over some crime stuff. Couldn't get past the first chapter.

I did not hate the book, but I most certainly did not love it. The main character, Sophie, is almost child like and she can get very annoying at times. Read more
