The Nightwish Ballads,
By venome (Bree, Belgium) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sleeping Sun (Audio CD)
"Sleeping Sun" contains four ballads and to my opinion, the best ballads that Nightwish has recorded. The EP opens with the single "Sleeping Sun", a gentle, calm but beautiful song. The second song is my personal favourite: "Walking In The Air". It is so dreamy and really makes you want to 'walk in the air'. The thirth song is "Swanheart", a very emotional piano-ballad which shows that Tarja really can sing. The last song is "Angels Fall First", taken from the debutalbum which has the same name. This is the most emotional song on the EP, it's simple but very beautiful. All of the songs on this EP can be found on other Nightwish-albums but it's still worth buying it (especially for fans), because it's a good album if you're in the mood for something calm and emotional. It's not just a random collection of soft and regular slow song, but a great selection of Nightwish's best ballads!

The ballads of Nightwish,
This review is from: Sleeping Sun (Audio CD)
This is great CD! This includes the ballads of Nightwish. I think that "Sleeping Sun" is the best song of Nightwish. I love the lyrics and the way Tarja sings. Music is wonderful too! "Walking in the Air" is great song too, but because it comes after breath-taking "Sleeping Sun"... It doesn't sound so very good. "Swanheart" is so beautiful song that tears come to my eye... Music is great, so are the lyrics. What about "Angels Fall First"? Those lyrics make me cry more when you think about them a lot. Music is beautiful and in this song Tarja sings quite high and it sound some parts a little like... too high? If you hate heavy metal music (Nightwish is a heavy metal band) and that's why you don't like Nightwish, then you still should listen to these songs because these aren't like the others!

We cannot live by metal alone,

This review is from: Sleeping Sun (Audio CD)
Nightwish is known for the wild guitars and keyboards, and Tarja operatically screaming out the vocals. But in the shuffle, the ballads tend to be forgotten, which is a shame, because they are truly beautiful. Here, it is Tarja's flawless voice that is showcased, accompanied by the dreamy, floating rhythms of songs such as "Swanheart."I would highly recommend this CD to ANY Nightwish fan.

Well, NIGHTWISH... I know that THERION rules, but Tarja's vocal makes me freezing, brrrrrrr, this sounds powerful, but gently, I don't know, there's something that cannot be described. Something... OK, it's better for You to make Your own opinion. You won't be sorry!

Four Ballads of the Eclipse,
By
This review is from: Sleeping Sun (Audio CD)
This single from symphonic metal band Nightwish includes four gorgeous ballds, three of which are complied from Oceanborn and Angels Fall First and one original song "Sleeping Sun," that was released to commemorate a solar eclipse that occurred in Europe. "Sleeping Sun" was later re-recorded and re-released in 2005 as part of the "Highest Hopes," a best of compilation of Nightwish songs.
A beautiful song, "Sleeping Sun" is one of the most powerful ballads Nightwish has ever recorded. It's also something of a personal Nightwish favorite. The song is made of pure beauty and delicate calm that just relaxes me so completely. It's really a surprise that this ballad still gets attention today from fans, and was even performed at Tarja's last concert on the End of an Era DVD. Though I think the band has announced that they will not perform the song again with new frontwoman Anette Olzon, it's still one of the band's best ballads. The gorgeous cover "Walking in the Air" and lovely song "Swanheart" are also included here from Oceanborn, along with "Angels Fall First" from the band's debut album of the same name. |
