Beautifully played Slide Guitar and Base,
This review is from: Sleepless Nights (Audio CD)
Shri Vishwa Mohan Bhatt is really amazing and clear in his expressions and the themes that he is playing Also, Matt Malley is an amzing Base Guitar Player, also a slide guitarist. Really have a lot of gratitude for them. This music is so relaxing and helps to go deeper if you plan to use it for meditation. Its a must have for everybody. Looking forward for more albums to come.

Modern Indian Music -A collaboration of Beauty and Love,

This review is from: Sleepless Nights (Audio CD)
This collaboration of Indian mohan veena master (Indian slide/resonator guitar) V.M. Bhatt and former Counting Crows bassist Matt Malley is a real treat. Not as precious as some such world music collaborations have been, this sounds like friends playing (accompanied by Subhen Chatterjee on tablas and percussion) - relaxed (and relaxing) yet playful and energetic. The music is clearly Indian but with Malley's (also a serious student of traditional Indian music) Western bass and keyboard parts it has a modern and world encompassing sound. From the perspective of traditional Indian music it may even seem outrageous, impatient and crude, but to my American ears it is plenty sublime and subtle. This is joyously spiritual music, not timid and gentle but bold and confident. And full of longing for oneness...through the sleepless nights of this life.
