I absolutely loved this story, it was well written and action packed, the author has a great imagination. The characters were nicely defined and all of them were completely fleshed out. You felt as though you knew each and every one of them. Ditto on the locales, you could visualize each of the different places the book took place.

3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting but not enough
I took advantage of the authors offer to read an extended sample that he stated covered 1/4 of his book. The story was interesting and, at first, I was compelled to keep reading but found myself several times (3 I can think of off hand) that I was confused about 'who' was telling the story. I read quickly and sometimes if I find myself confused about something I reread...

My favorite part of the book is where Jake (the dad) had to make up or tell a story. Sort of a story within a story. These miniature tales were so entertaining and enthralling, I was almost disappointed that they didn't go on.

The writing is very well done. I know that this is his first published book, but there are more to come. Count me in for the next one, Brad.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Really Good Story, October 16, 2009

I very much enjoyed this story. It is about a fathers quest to save his two sons from a creature (Mr. Brink) created by their fears, who lives in the land of dreams.

The characters and locations are very well defined and easily come to life in the readers mind. The story kept me interested and looking forward to the next page, not to mention up too late a couple of nights because I didn't want to put it down.

If you enjoy fantasy/fiction, it is definately a must read. I am certainly looking forward to more.

5.0 out of 5 stars LOVED this book!!!!, October 18, 2009

I read this book on vacation and trust me I would be very upset if I had wasted time on a book that wasn't very good while on vaca. This book didn't let me down. It completely took me to another place, or should I say places. This author does in fact have a vivid imagination that few authors have. I KNOW I will continue to read his work in the future.

I would recommend this book to ALL ages!!! While it could be considered a childrens book, as they would enjoy it, it is also very much an adult book!!!

I'm not a reviewer I'm a reader so this review isn't as eloquent as the reviews before me. As a reader.... Five stars from me!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Alice in Wonderland meets Harry Potter and Jack and the Beanstalk, October 23, 2009

This review is from: Sleepwalker: The Last Sandman (Kindle Edition)
This is a wonderful book suitable for many age groups. It's part fairy tale, part fantasy, part action adventure. The non-stop action made me thankful for the more sedate portions, which were not overdone. It would make a GREAT movie, with the characters rivaling those of the Harry Potter series. I found myself becoming quite fond of many of the characters, and was sad for the book to end. Never fear, though, the end leaves room for a sequel.

The ONLY problem with this book was the editing could have been just a little better. There were about a dozen words misspelled, and some sentences with a couple of words transposed. The chapter headings mostly appeared at the bottom of the page, but these were minor minor annoyances.

In short, PLEASE read this book. It has a classic good vs. evil plot and lovable characters sure to delight all ages of readers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thrilling tale, October 26, 2009
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Sleepwalker: The Last Sandman (Kindle Edition)
Brad Marlowe's Sleepwalker, The Last Sandman is a thrilling tale for every reader, whether young and old. It is an intriguing and engaging story that is hard to put down, with real life characters that are easy to relate to. I am an 11 year old girl who loves to read and really enjoyed Mr. Marlowe's use of vocabulary in his descriptions. Can't wait for the next one . . .

4.0 out of 5 stars A Pleasure, December 19, 2009

What a magnificent imagination this author has. I love the idea of being able to travel to "dream land" as I wished to be able to do that when I was a kid. The characters were likable and spoke the way children actually speak. It did not sound like an adult trying to speak, "kid". I was also impressed when the author chose to make one character switch from a he to a she, back and forth. At first I thought he had made a mistake but I soon realized it was quite intentional and found out why, later in the book. I love it when I can't predict it all.

I also thoroughly enjoyed the stories inside the story by Jake. Jake was known to be an off the cuff great story teller and would get many requests to do so. He was even requested to do so to receive "the book" that was vital to the conquering of the nightmare in the dreamland. Just another example of this author's fantastic story telling ability.

I found myself drawn in to this story each night when I picked it up. I actually looked forward to snuggling in to bed under the covers and continuing to read. It was like a little fantasy vacation to some far off distant land and I could leave all the problems of this world behind as I traveled with those trying to conquer the nightmare and repair dream land for those in dream land as well as our own.

I can't believe this is an indie author. He writes exceptionally well, the story was well defined, it flowed beautifully and I could not find a single flaw in it all. I don't say this very often about books but this was simply brilliant. I can even see this being made in to a movie...easily.

This will definitely appeal to a younger crowd, no doubt, but it is also enjoyable for the older crowd as well.

To the author: Bravo. You did wonderfully and I look forward to more from you in the future.

The only reason I gave this 4 stars is because I got an earlier version that had a small formatting issue. Every so often, the font size would change and I would be ripped out of the story until I upped the font size or decreased the font size on my Kindle. The author has stated that he has done some fine tuning to the book so hopefully that issue was resolved and anyone buying this book now or in the future will have a nice, clean version.

By any standard, including the work of many of today's leading authors, this is an exceptional book.

*As in the best literature, the characters are created stroke-by-stroke rather than in extended, often boring, asides.

*The plot is highly original, properly braided with natural transitions between character and locale, and the rhythm and pacing are perfectly suited to the writer's easy flowing style. One has only to read the prologue, which is included in the free sample, to gain an appreciation for the excellent prose quality. The hook is excellent, quickly and deeply set, and is fully supported by the book's development.

*Dialog is spot-on, never stilted, and children sound like children--precocious children to be sure, but children nonetheless--rather than obnoxious forty year olds.

*The formatting of the book is essentially perfect and the editing is nearly so. This is a thoroughly professional job in every respect.

In closing, I'll simply add that, were I a literary agent, I'd be doing all within my power to get this writer under contract. With proper representation and guidance, I'm confident he's destined for a highly successful career.

I loved your book. It made me feel like a kid again discovering the wonder of books and the stories within. I can't wait to read this to my granddaughters when they are older. All I can say now is, "where's the sequel"?

4.0 out of 5 stars Imaginative!, January 10, 2010
This review is from: Sleepwalker: The Last Sandman (Kindle Edition)
Perfect for young adults and not so young adults as I was pulled in instantly with this author's descriptive writing. His use of action and imagination will pull you in and for the young at heart that don't care to read, this title is sure to change that.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a wonderful experience!, November 28, 2009

I will start by saying that I love to read "indies" and I purchased this work solely based on a post by the author on the discussion boards. The price was definitely right and the blurb seemed interesting enough. While I don't normally fancy myself a "fantasy" reader, I decided to give it a shot. I can say, without a doubt, this book is among the top 5 that I have ever read by any "indie" that I have found! I am so glad that Mr. Marlowe took the opportunity to make a post and suck me into the Land of Nod.

This little work of art was amazingly well written, Mr. Marlowe made his world build up around me and I found myself totally immersed in it. I wanted to be there and I am happy that I went! This was one of those works that touches you in all of the ways that you want a story to touch you. A fabulous tale of commitment, love, dreaming (and keeping your dreams alive) and I can only say that I found myself sad when it was over. This is the type of story that, young or old, parent or not, you find yourself connected to thanks to Mr. Marlowe's beautiful ability to tether you with his words.

If I could, I would stand and applaud this writer's efforts and his willingness to share this thing of beauty with all of us. I wholeheartedly give this book 5 stars and HIGHLY recommend everyone take the opportunity to read it. You will be happy that you did, I know I am.
