4.0 out of 5 stars One of the most under-rated albums, February 18, 2001
Gerry Rafferty's greatest solo success came from the CITY TO CITY album, which owed most of its success to the BAKER STREET single, which in turn owed most of its success to a sax solo. From there on, it was a gradual decline in terms of commercial revenues. SLEEPWALKING was the third album released after that high point; so far had Rafferty's star plummeted that the album didn't even chart.

But actually there's an awful lot of good stuff here. Few LPs get off to quite such a cracking start as this does with 'Standing at the Gates'. It was released in 1982 -- just before the advent of CD, and just before the widespread use of the Sony Walkman. I remember listening to the track again and again on the in-flight rock channel of an aircraft bound for Hong Kong. 'Standing at the Gates' seemed to be an entirely appropriate lyric for a precarious approach to the accident-prone Kai-Tak airport.

Track #3, 'Change of Heart' is also a great rocker, with a pretty sequencer intro that belies the groove that is to come.

This is much my favourite Rafferty album. It was never going to change the world, but it had plenty of the right stuff for grown-ups who want attractive soft-rock played by some of the best musicians of the 70s and 80s -- for instance, Mel Collins, Hugh Burns and Morris (or is it Maurice?) Pert.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gerry Rafferty : SLEEPWALING (Originals), December 1, 2001
I have been waiting for this for decades! I first heard this album in 1982.
Sleepwalking has been 'out of print' for such a long time. I was able to get a used LP via GEMM. But no CDs were available. At last it has finally happened. Thank you very much.
Gerry Rafferty is one of most underrated songsmiths of the past several decades. Baker Street was his commercial high point, however he has done similar (if not better) work in Sleepwalking. As other Amazon.com reviewers have already stated: the opening track blows you away!
In my opinion the best song of this seminal album was never available in the many excellent compilations released in the interim since 1982: Right Moment.
A MUST HAVE FOR ALL DISCERING FANS.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Great album by Gerry Rafferty, May 13, 2001

(REAL NAME)
This album is a must have for any Gerry Rafferty fan. There is not a bad song on it.Standing at the Gates can be compared to Baker Street with some great sax playing. The Right Moment is a beautiful ballad and the best is at the end the mysterious As wise as an Serpent. The only bad thing about this album is that it only has eight tracks but each one is good. Also check out Gerry's new album Another World available through his website.www.gerryrafferty.com.
