I am a big fan of period piece writing and have fallen in love with the stories written by Katie Crabapple. I loved reading about Millie in the first book of this series and was glad to have a sequel to that book in Sleigh Ride. Charlotte and James are great lead characters. I enjoyed reading about Charlotte as her character grew throughout the book. I also liked the accuracy of having the characters chaperoned while they were courting. The development of the relationships in this story reminded me of something from a Jane Austen book. Anyone who is period piece fan or just looking for a great book with find a good read in Sleigh Ride.

This second of the Homespun series is as delightful as the first. Charlotte learned of the life of a farm wife from a loving teacher who taught faith as a first prerequisite to success.Great read.

This second book in the Homespun series did not disappoint! It is a little pricey for such a short story but I just loved the first one so much and knew I would love the second one as well. I love that this book and the first one have been so historically accurate and free from anything graphic, gory, indecent, offensive and free from any cussing. Everything was so respectful. I liked how they did the childbirth thing. Very respectful and nothing sexually graphic. True to the time period they had the husband wait in the barn and Millie had her privacy with only her midwife to help her and make sure she had what she needed and nobody else allowed in the room at all. Of course, I have to roll my eyes at the stereotypical scene portrayed in movies about labor starting when a woman's "water" breaks. Oh please. LOL. But I love that everything was true to the time period and they didn't ever go into detail about labor or sex or anything at all. Very proper and respectful. Most authors want to write in modern day sensibilities regarding male-female relationships and portray a husband as so much better than other men of his time because he treats his wife "equal" and he's right there holding her hand through labor (that shows he cares!). But the truth is, as Taylor Caldwell said in 1970, what woman in her right mind would want equality with men??? And if a man loves his wife he would step back while she's in labor and give her her privacy so she can relax and focus and block out the entire world to where it's just her and her baby. I just can't stress enough how much I love that this author has kept the book true to the time period and didn't just write in a whole bunch of PC crap to appease modern day sensibilities.Read more ›

I love how it picked up from where Millie left off. The truth and honesty of the characters and development of love was wonderful.

I have read all the Homespun series and have enjoyed each one as it builds on the last. I have enjoyed the new characters and getting caught up on the old ones. I like the wholesome stories and the positive messages.
