From Library Journal

With their grandmother Mattie, the Mitchell sistersAAshley, Brook, Connie, Deirdre, and EricaAstand united in pain at the funeral of their mother, the famous actress Rachelle Barrister. Rachelle abandoned the girls on Mattie's doorstep almost as soon as each was born, and they resent her for it, wondering, "How does one pay one's last respects when there was no respect in the first place?" Their resentment creates stumbling blocks in their relationships with one another and with God. As they drift back into their own lives, Mattie's goodbye reminds them that their blood is a slender thread holding them together and that if they don't work at maintaining it, the thread will break. And it does break when Mattie rips apart a special quilt she had made for her girls and sends a piece to each one. In the wake of the quilt, Ashley's and Deirdre's lives begin to unravel, and it takes the entire family to piece them back together. Highlighting the weaknesses and strengths of a family, Peterson (A Promise for Tomorrow) offers a contemporary tale suitable for all collections.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tracie Peterson does it again!, June 9, 2000
This review is from: Slender Thread, A (Paperback)
Once again, Tracie Peterson has woven a wonderful story that captures your attention and makes you examine your own heart. A Slender Thread is the story of five sisters and their wise grandmother who raised them. The story weaves you though each of their lives, showing how families can be so close, yet so far apart. You are able to identify with each sister and her personal struggles, as well as how this causes problems within the family. You will laugh and cry with Maggie and cheer her decisions on how to prove a much needed point to her granddaughters. I couldn't put it down. A must read for anyone with siblings - especially sisters - and even more so if you don't always get along!

5.0 out of 5 stars a wonderful story, October 17, 2001
This review is from: Slender Thread, A (Paperback)
I really liked this story. I picked it up because the book jacket looked interesting, but I had no idea the book would be this good. I finished it in just a few hours, and truly enjoyed it. The characters were well written and I felt like I got to know them over the course of the 380 pages. I won't spoil the ending, but this book moved me to tears.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Slender Thread, April 22, 2001

Shirley J. Babb (Holton, KS United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Slender Thread, A (Paperback)
I am a Kansas woman with five sisters and I could relate to all of the sisters but mostly I relate to Mattie. I have found in my 65 years how hard it is to keep families together. A devastating loss of my nephew has weighed heavily and this book was so enlightning in showing the way that God helps us cope. I hope Tracie Peterson makes a continuing saga of the six women in this story. Let's hear more about their walks through life with God.
