slendertone core toning,
By
This review is from: Slendertone Flex Go Abdominal Toning System (Unisex) (Sports)
i had my doubts before trying the product, but was actually pretty happy with it's performance. it is in no way a weight loss device, but i can really feel the tightening of my core muscles and the slimming, more pulled in, look of my abdomen. if you need to lose excess pounds, this product is not for you, but if you are already fairly thin and just need some help toning up then this is a really great product. it really does reach all your core muscles, much more than crunches alone. it helps tighten you up all the way around, stomach, sides and back. the only downside i would say is having to buy the replacement pads, but it's still a better deal than doing endless crunches.

After reading some of the reviews on here I felt I should chime in as some people just don't seem to get it. This belt by itself will never give you a 6 pack stomach especially if you have a serious layer of fat. In fact EMS or electric Muscle Stimulation does not burn fat nor does it burn calories in any significant quantities. In order to burn fat or burn calories you must exercise or in other words you must use a lot of different muscle groups including the heart and respiratory system. EMS simply doesn't do this. While some people involved with sports do use these, there is almost no evidence whatsoever that they give such people any significant results.
Where EMS truly shines is in the realm of physical therapy. Some of the reviews say things like "The jury is still out on whether these work". As a general statement that is just 100% incorrect. These devices have been proven to work, in fact its not even debatable. Its only within the realm of sports that such statements can accurately be made. The people that are saying this are simply expecting too much and clearly had a misconception about what this product can actually do. As a physical therapy device EMS is OUTSTANDING and 100% PROVEN to work. It helps stop atrophy of muscles and helps people with musculoskeletal injuries improve at much faster rates. Again there is just no debating this as this has been 100% proven. I have been using an EMS device for over 8 years so I know first hand what these devices can do when used properly. I have a terrible back and exercising my stomach is extremely difficult and painful. My physical therapist introduced me to EMS and its now become an integral part of my stomach conditioning routine. I still have to exercise those muscle groups as EMS by itself is not going to do much except slow down atrophy. However with that being said, EMS combined with some low impact exercising allows me to maintain a level of fitness in those muscle groups that would otherwise not be possible, at least not without upping my exercise routine. There are also periods where my back acts up to the point where I am unable to exercise at all and they can sometimes last for weeks at a time. Using EMS during those periods stops any significant loss of strength and basically allows me to pick up where I left off conditioning wise. If I did not use EMS during those periods I would no doubt notice a difference when I finally returned to my exercising routines. In other words it stops any atrophy and any significant loss of strength during those periods. While EMS by itself will not get you to a high level of conditioning, once your at a high level of conditioning, using EMS by itself can help to keep you at that level, at least for a few weeks. Again this is invaluable during those periods when I cannot exercise. The Bottom line - EMS devices are not a substitute for exercising. There is only so much an EMS device can do for you and that will never compare to actual exercising. With that being said complimenting your exercise routing with EMS sessions can give you positive results especially if you suffer from physical disabilities. EMS has been 100% proven to work so don't let the naysayers fool you. You just have to be realistic in regards to what EMS can do for you and giving you a six pack without any complimentary exercising is simply NEVER going to happen. For those people like myself that do suffer from physical problems, these devices can be an absolute godsend. 5 Stars!!

Large Time Commitment Hinders the Benefit,

This review is from: Slendertone Flex Go Abdominal Toning System (Unisex) (Sports)
I am five feet nine inches tall and weigh about 155 pounds (normally information I don't give out, but I will for this review). My goal the last year or so has been to improve my abdominal strength and definition. I decided to try the Slendertone product to see if it would have a positive effect.
As of March, 2009, I have been using the Slendertone product for about 9 weeks for a total of about 45 sessions. The jury is still out on this product. Before I received Slendertone my abdominal routine included three sets of bicycle crunches three times weekly for a total time commitment of about 45 minutes per week. Switching to Slendertone increased my time commitment by over four times. I do five - 40 minute sessions per week for a total of about 200 minutes per week. Despite the very large time commitment, I really haven't noticed any better abdominal definition or strength compared with the bicycle crunches I did previously. I will post an update after I devote a few more months to the Slendertone. Although some claim the Slendertone is "pleasant" and you can do other things as you wear it that is really not true. I really don't feel I'm getting a good workout unless I have the intensity on maximum (100%). It usually takes me about ten to fifteen minutes to work my way up to the maximum intensity. In order to feel somewhat comfortable, I need to be in a semi-reclining position during the contractions. Usually I watch TV as I do the workout. There is no way I would be able to walk around or even sit at a computer at that intensity level. It is also important to remember that in order to actually "see" abdominal muscles with definition, it requires a thin abdominal fat layer. In fact, everyone has a "six-pack" already. The reason we can't see it on most people is simply because the fat layer is covering it up. So, it's important to also lower your body fat content if you want to actually "see" abdominal muscles. Exercising can "build" abdominal muscles somewhat to help them standout, but lessening abdominal fat is essential. Some have commented on the wearing out of the pads. I have used the same pads for all 45 sessions over nine weeks. They are still fine. About once a month, I wipe the pads with a cleaner I have for table tennis paddles (SpinMax). It reconditions the pads and makes them sticky again. Wiping down the pads with some type of reconditioner occasionally will lengthen the life. It's also important to cover the pads after each use and "roll" the covers on so it squeezes out any air pockets. I would estimate the pads will last from three to four months with regular use, but I will update this review again when I replace the pads. Personally, I think intense sessions of bicycle crunches totaling about 45 minutes a week appears to be as effective as this product that requires 200 minutes per week. But I will stick with Slendertone for a while longer and post my future observations.

I bought the Slendertone Abs System 6/7/2009. I used it for about a week, managing to crank it up to the highest setting the night I got it. This took me quite awhile, and I had to control my breathing and not move around alot. This got much easier quickly though, the sensation is just a little wierd at first. When I started I could not even do crunches, and was in pretty bad physical condition. I changed my eating habits at the same time I started using the belt, and after a week I was able to do 50 crunches without bothering my abs. My back bothered me more than anything else. At this point I purchased the Arms System which is also a very good product, and a week after that I joined a gym and started doing regular workouts with a trainer.
I highly recommend the slendertone abs belt, as it helped improve my energy levels and get me results quickly that motivated me to be able to work out normally. I still use the belt 6 nights a week, and the highest setting no longer bothers me at all. I can even sit at a computer and write programming code with it running. I feel that the abs belt is worth the money I paid, and has been extremely effective. I have not had to change my gel pads yet, as of 7/7/2009. As far as how long to use the belt a day, I started out using it around 40minutes working my way up from 60-99 each session, and now I use it about an hour and 20 minutes a day going almost immediately to the highest setting(99). Having said that, regular exercise should be a must as well as a good diet if you want to achieve the best results, but the belt dramatically improves your core strength and energy very quickly and this is what enabled me to make myself start working out again. My abs are the one part of me that never bothers me after a nice long workout at the gym these days. P.S. When I first started using the belt, I had been suffering chronic back pain due to very weak back muscles, and after using the belt for the first week, my back pain was completely gone and I was feeling much better overall. -Chris

I purchased my slendertone abdominal toning system about 1 month ago. I am a very fit woman seeking more toning in my core area(s). I have noticed visible results already. I am using this product at least 5 times a week. I am seeing more definition in my abs! Yeeha!!
It is helping me with my posture, also. I have definitely seen a difference in the way my clothes are fitting me. I like the ease of function, clarity in directions, and simplicity of design. I read all the reviews before I purchased this product. I especially found one review helpful. A gentleman suggested keeping your belt in a zip top plastic bag, to keep the gelpads from drying out. I agree that that is very helpful. Thanks for the tip! I would highly recommend this product! I fully advocate the practice of exercise, excellent eating habits, AND the Slendertone Ab Toner. You cannot lose with that winning combination!

How to keep your belt working!,

This review is from: Slendertone Flex Go Abdominal Toning System (Unisex) (Sports)
My wife received this belt and loves it! I noticed a difference in her waist and I'm impressed she is really into this. She used it about 30 times and then suddenly it quit. Being an inventor, I decided to investigate how it works and how to fix it. After reading all the Amazon reviews and experimenting with the unit. I figured that the gel pads have water in them that in time evaporates. The sensors see the moisture and send a signal to the pad to operate correctly. I applied moisture to the pads and that did not work. So I folded paper towels in the kitchen, held then under the faucet and squeezed out the excess water and applied them to the existing rubber pads, as I wrapped it around the waist and the belt works fine! My wife couldn't believe it! She told me I'm getting lucky tonight, she is thrilled, so this fix was well worth it! So far the belt has been working for about an hour. Will keep all informed as to how long this works! BTW, after removing the paper towels, you will find the pads are very moist and the belt will continue to work. How long? The pads retain the moisture from the paper towels. Still experimenting and will follow up after more testing. Great product!
UPDATE: Its a month later and the belt is still working. We ordered 1 set of extra pads, but we haven't needed them yet. One of the paper towels stuck to the rubber pad, so next time we will use a material that won't stick. Either way the moisture is the trick to keeping the belt working....

Before I purchased this belt, I read many, many reviews. Now that I have been using it, I am VERY satisfied. I wanted to get a belt when I saw an infomercial for one (not a Slendertone). When I went on the website it was $199.99!!!! So I started searching, and found this one for only $59.00. I am already pretty slender, but had developed a pooch belly from to much junk food. After using the belt at maximum level for two weeks (twice a day); my pooch is gone. NO KIDDING!! You have to try this belt.

It's NOT a piece of junk.... seriously.,

I honestly thought this thing was another gimmick. I bought it on a whim because I don't like working out and figured this product would require no effort. Oddly enough that's what happened. It won't make you loose weight but it will tone up your beer belly. Sure you might feel stupid wearing it at first but if someone laughs at you tell them to wear it and set it on max. One unsuspecting jolt from a Slendertone belt will shut them up and make them respect you. It's much like being Tazered in the stomach so start out slow and follow the direction until you figure it out. I never realized three little batteries could give that big of a jolt. Cover the pads when not in use and you won't have to replace them as often.
If your desperate to loose weight then I have bad news for you. You have to eat better and exercise. Most weight loss pills get recalled because they do more harm than good. This device works best with that understanding but I stress that the only effort you need is to strap in on and change out the batteries from time to time.

The side benefit to strengthening my abs seems to be better core strength. My back pain has diminished along with better tone in my back.

I purchased this item in September and just now had to replace the gel pads. If you follow the directions for care of the gel pads they will last longer. The control unit lets you know when the batteries need replaced or there is a problem with the pads. This product will tone your abs but you still have to eat a balanced diet and exercise.
