Simple but sophisticated recipes; an important addition to any cookbook collection,
By Anne Taper (over the rainbow...) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Slice of Santa Barbara: California Rivera Cuisine (Hardcover)
I'm surprised no one has rated this cookbook. It's a definite keeper for any cookbook collection. Among my mainstay recipes are the Oatmeal Chocolate Chip cookies w/a bit of coconut, the Pasta and Vegetables, and at the very top of my list: the Chinese Chicken Salad and Cranberry Apple Crisp.
What makes this cookbook a standout is that the recipes are all manageable to prepare but like all Junior League offerings, were created and tested by women who are busy but who are also food-savvy and like to entertain with the flair for which the coastal community of Santa Barbara is known. Thus, the recipes in this book are within the ability of the intermediate cook and yet will also impress your guests. For perspective, I also depend upon the JL Cookbooks from Savannah, Pensacola, and the JL "Celebration" cookbook for everyday and entertaining, but I reach for the JLSB cookbook when I want a memorable recipe for a casually elegant occasion. |
