Excellent photography and very precise recipies,
By A Customer
This review is from: Cakes and Slices ("Australian Women's Weekly" Home Library) (Paperback)
This book saves the day, when you are expecting guests or organising an afternoon tea for friends. Some recipies are fast and faboulous to make, some are more complicted but worth the effort. Very creative.

This cookbook is a wonderful compilation of cakes and slices (bars)that are not too complicated and are based on simple and wholesome ingredients. No matter what continent you cook on, everything you need to know to adapt the recipes is included.

Oldie but Goodie,
This review is from: Cakes and Slices ("Australian Women's Weekly" Home Library) (Paperback)
I've baked from this book for more than 15 years. Recipes are simple and foolproof. The cakes may not be show-stoppingly memorable or particularly unique/ innovative, but for a solid, no-fail repertoire of good, homely cakes, this is the book. Recommended.

I purchased this book when it first came out in Australia nearly two decades ago, and have been using it ever since, in two continents. My earliest note is from 1992 when a "Banana cake with coconut honey topping" (p. 60) turned out "very tasty". The latest is from 2011. The old book is now in tatters from use, hence I was fortunate to find a used book of the old edition. The cakes (and slices) turn out beautifully, every single time. The ingredients are available just about everywhere (including the Middle East and Western supermarkets in Africa). It is a fun book, both my sons grew up on its' offerings, and I love it.

I bought this book as I was replacing a lost copy of the same book. I was not able to buy the book in Australia as it is no longer in print and the newer version of this book dosen't have all of the receipes so I was delighted to find a copy with Amazon. The book was as described, in fantastic condition especially since it was second hand. I recieved the book in a short time to Australia from Amercia. Received much earlier than quoted. The transaction was easy. I would have liked something in the book that showed me where it had actually come from since it was second hand. A name and the place that the person lives written inside the cover but thats me I am a sentimental kind and love the history behind things. Not everyone would like that as they would think that it spoils the book. I'm a very happy customer thanks :-)
