5.0 out of 5 stars Lush Little Delicacies March 25, 2012
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
In full-disclosure mode, I'm one of the 90 or so contributors to this book. That has given me access to an advanced proof-copy of SLICES OF FLESH and, after reading my own contribution, THEN, JUST A DREAM (its 3rd time in print, thank you...) I began to read some of the other efforts.

I am, as Tony C. Smith on the StarShipSofa says, chuffed!

First, I'm in the sandwich with writers such as Jack Ketchum, Simon Clark, Ramsey Campbell, Nancy Holder, Tim Lebbon, Graham Masterson, Kaaron Warren, William F. Nolan...William F. Nolan for crineoutloud! I am further chuffed because Stan has put together a really good-looking book with cover art by Mike Mignola. Yes. That Mike Mignola, HELLBOY's Mike Mignola. Anyway. The talent pooled here is first rate and the work presented, while in bite-sized portions, is excellent; some is harsh, some delicate, some touching, some funny, some enigmatic... Oh, I heartily recommend this little wander through the abattoir.

All the above avoids the mention that we're all volunteers here and the book will help raise money for several writerly-oriented charities...literacy, the Horror Writers Association's Hardship Fund, the Stephen and Tabitha King Foundation...others.

Nice to know but I wouldn't recommend buying a book simply to aid good causes. Do that, yes, buy it on the moral high-ground, but buy it because it's going to be a good -- a very good -- read!

5.0 out of 5 stars Top-Notch Short Horrors April 22, 2012
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Top-notch collection of short horrors, the highlight of which being (in my opinion) Steve Voelker's "For Worse". A good collection to have around on a dark, rainy night, that is, before the power goes out!

Horror flash fiction is the best way to get hooked on the genre. A little tidbit here, another taste there, and then it is all you crave. What is great about this anthology, is that you get the opportunity to discover new authors that you never read before. And what's also nice, is the stories get better and better as you go along. Some of my favories were "Etched Deep" by David Niall Wilson, "Hoodies" by Paul Kane, "Its Just Business" by Matthew Warner, "Overtime at the Beheading Factory" by Tom Cardamone, "Sumpahump" by JG Faherty, and "Predator and Prey" by Fred Wiehe, just to name a few. There's a lot of great talent within these pages eager to scare the pants off you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Scary Stuff September 8, 2012
By Arthur
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I don't usually read short stories but purchased this in anticipation of Halloween. I was pleased to find a collection of stories that are creative and very frightening. I read it cover to cover this summer but will be sure to read again as the spooky season approaches. There are numerous stories contanined within the covers I found very immaginative. Probably my favorite is Snuffbox by Erin Eveland; truely creative horror.

5.0 out of 5 stars Flavors You WIll Never Soon Forget June 23, 2012
Format:Paperback
I kid you not. You will love the hell out of this collection of flash fiction. The Slices of Flesh stories have a taste all of their own and an originality of flavor you will never soon forget. You don't need a large steak knife and fork to dig in, just peel back the pages one by one and enjoy the written word. Every story in this anthology is top notch. A few of my favorites are: Bones Lie Quietly Now, Ex Voto, Magnum Opus, The Wrath of Benjo, Sumpahump, Cur, Bones,Bones, Monster and I Am Not Afraid. You NEED to get this anthology - you will not regret it!

2.0 out of 5 stars Misleading... April 6, 2012
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Brian Keene, one of my very favorite authors, has his name on the cover of this book, but nothing by him appears within its pages. While I'm sure that this wasn't a deliberate attempt to garner sales on behalf of the publishers, as someone who purchased this book as a fan and avid collector of Brian Keene, I found this horribly misleading. There are some really great stories in this book by fantastic authors such as Dear Jimmy by DL Snell, which was deliciously twisted and fun to read, but I do feel that having an author appear on the cover who isn't actually a contributor really put a bad taste in my mouth about the whole collection.
I've written this review in the hopes that any other Keene fans out there who are considering buying this book will read it and therefor not face the dissapointment I was met with.
