I knew Tom Slick having grown up on the Essar Ranch at San Antonio. He was an exceptional individual who cared about people. The book is excellent but doesn't tell about him as an individual.

Catherine Nixon Cooke has written a captivating book about a unique man and forward thinking visionary. Her excellent portrayal of his life and times is both interesting and inspiring, and her skill in telling the story is itself something to behold. Two thoughts emerge - one, I wish Tom Slick had lived a longer life, and two, I am looking forward to more books from Catherine Nixon Cooke.

After reading this book, I want to be an adventurer too!
I loved all of the stories, I was riveted. Ms. Cooke did an outstanding job of capturing Mr. Slick's love of discovery and exploration. You felt as though you were right there with him. I loved all of the old photographs, it really added to the book. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves to read a good biography.
