Slick Shoes. I used some extra Christmas money to pick up this CD, on the advice of several friends that have recommended Slick Shoes to me, and I can say that it is an excellent album.

In fact, I love the album. Good punk is something that you have to search harder for today, and I found it with Slick Shoes. The album impressed me so much that Slick Shoes' other albums are now atop my "to buy" list of CD's. It was a great introduction to the Palmdale, California based band.

The drumming of Joe Nixon impressed me, being a drummer myself it's something that I closely scrutnize. If was fast, excellent, and always seemed to add to each song. The only song that I wasn't all that excited about was "1000 Times Before", mainly because I'm not a big fan of vocal distortion.

The best song on the album in my opinion is "I Knew". It's a brilliant and expansive tune. They're all good to great tunes, "Friday Night", "Alone", "So Much More", and "151" are the highlight tunes on the album.

Musically, the most noticble thing that is lacking is bass. The basswork that I could hear was excellent, but it was not as promement as perhaps it should have been. Other than that, I really can't complain about the overall sound of the album.

The album is rather short, mainly because of the general shortness of punk tracks. With only 12 tracks on the album it is kind of a breeze. However, I think they more than make up for it with the quality of their music. I defenetly recommend this album to fans of punk, and to people with good musical taste. They should enjoy it immensely as I did.

An excellent and fairly diverse punk CD. Five Stars for Slick Shoes.

This is in my oppinion Slick Shoes's best CD to date. It just barely beat Rusty. It won't be long before these guys are discovered. All of my friends (the ones who listen to punk) love this CD. The best tracks are definately 1,3,5,6,7,8,10, and 12 so If you were going to talk singles, I'd say My Ignorance, Friday Night, Alone, and No More Words would be it. If you are thinking about buying this, do so, because at the rate these guys are going, this will soon be dated material, but that is the beauty of punk, there is no such thing as dated material!!! So buy this now or forever hold your piece. Also check out there 2nd Cd Rusty, it is almost as good as this, but not quite.

This is a really good Slick Shoes cd. If you're a fan of New Found Glory, Blink 182, MxPx, Green Day and Phenix Tx, then you'll probly like this album! If this cd has more tracks on it then 12, it would probly be even better. All 12 songs on here are really good, cept maybe Pass Me By (too much "christmas" in it, and 1000 Times Before (Ryan, the singer's voice is like distorted on this song). Slick Shoes have 4 albums...If you're into fast punk rock, then get their other album Rusty, and if you're into heavy/dark punk rock, then check out Slick Shoes' Burn Out, for those of you that like slower pop punk, then check out Wake Up Screaming. This New self-titled Slick Shoes album sounds more like a faster Wake Up Screaming. Its really good!! I recomend it. - peace

Overall, I liked the CD. But one or two things I think are missing. I think that the bass guitar and drumming should stand out more. And even tho this is my first Slick Shoes CD, I could have guessed that the music was better in earlier years ( for ex. Green Day ). But there are some good songs on this CD like Friday Night. I think anyone who has heard of them should at least look into them

well, a friend of mind obtained this cd by an act of piracy and he told me it wasnt bad. so i ran into some money and went to the store looking for andrew w. k., but they didnt have him so i got this instead. i popped it into my player when i got home, expecting another great lyrical effort like wake up screaming. i saw the band recently at a church in simi valley and i thought they put on a great show- i was really excited about this new cd, but i ended up pretty disappointed. almost all of the songs are about some girl, presumably the lead singer's significant other. (are they married yet?) i felt like i was listening in on someone else's lovey dovey phone conversations. each song in question sounded pretty much the same- some sweet, well-intentioned, but completely whipped guy crooning over his woman with green eyes. i got so sick of the cliche lyrics and strained, repetitive music that i had to take a break after 7 songs. the friday night song was alright, but i was sincerely disappointed that there were very few Christian lyrics on this album, which was something i really liked about wake up screaming. also, i think the band's digressed musically.. i'd like to say this album was just a screw-up, but maybe they're just past their peak. you might like this if you appreciate their music more than their lyrics, but otherwise i would recommend wake up screaming if you dont already have it or a new tooth and nail release like mxpx's ten years and running instead.

This cd was the best cd i have ever bought, it is by far the best slick shoes cd up to date. (except maybe for wake up screaming)This cd is totally worth the money, and trust me you won't be disappointed. There new songs are great and anybody into Slick Shoes has to by this cd to add to there collection of punk cd's!!! If you havent seen them live, ...

I've always liked slick shoes but this is the first album of theirs that I bought. I have to say that it's worth the money. All 12 tracks are awesome. It's not quite 5 stars but 4 is too low so I'll give it 4.5 stars. Great cd. I'm gonna check out more of their stuff soon

Well, just listened to the new self titled Slick Shoes album, being a fan of "Rusty" and "Burn out" and after being horrified by the terrible "Wake Up Screaming" i wasn't really sure what to expect, well it isn't as good as "Rusty" or even "Burn out", but it sure as hell is better than "WUS", the drumming is back at break-neck speed, the melodies are great to sing along to, it's pretty much classic Slick Shoes, but it all sounds samey, not original at all, I wish they would experiment a bit more, then they could sound fresh again. The singing too is much the same, pretty monotonous, but it gets the job done. And finally the lyrics, I never liked the lyrics in any SS album, I just don't agree with them, but I guess that's personal.

It may seem that I hate the album, but I really don't, I really want to see these guys succeed, and while this is a good SS album it's too much of the same, still, if their next album is like this, I WILL buy it.

k i just saw slick shoes in concert opening up for yellowcard. they rocked. yellowcard rocked the house too.. i bought the slick shoes cd. and it's really catchy. go see slick shoes or yellowcard in concert you wont regret it. you'll like the vibe. it's straight up crowd surfing, stage diving, and all the moshing without the jerps that try to give everyone fractured skulls, beaten in noses, and step all over you. what makes a good concert are all the people in it: the band and the audience. remember that. its good clean fun. take your grandma with you.

This album's upbeat pace and distinct lyrics combined with typical SS melodies make for an awesome pack of songs. If you like their older albums, this one won't be a disappointment.
