I can't recommend this book enough! It's just so well written. If I didn't know this novel was based on the tv series pilot script, I'd have thought that the show was based on this book! I love Sliders, it's my favorite show. I have yet to see the premiere episode, but this book surpassed all of my expectations and I look forward to seeing more Sliders novels from this...

3.0 out of 5 stars Watch the TV Show Instead
This is perhaps the first time I like a TV show *more* than the novelization. This book covers the entire first two episodes, nearly scene for scene and word perfect. The problem is the author decided to insert additional emotional angst, which thankfully the TV show minimized or skipped.

I can't recommend this book enough! It's just so well written. If I didn't know this novel was based on the tv series pilot script, I'd have thought that the show was based on this book! I love Sliders, it's my favorite show. I have yet to see the premiere episode, but this book surpassed all of my expectations and I look forward to seeing more Sliders novels from this author. It left me nostalgic for the first three seasons of the show (currently rerun on the sci-fi channel), especially now that the cast has suffered a major change/loss. Jerry O'Connell has left the show, and so has Charlie. Of the original ensemble, only Derricks (Rembrandt Brown) remains. Let's face it, they should have just ended the show and moved on to the big screen, like Star Trek. I wish good luck to the new cast members, but it's just not going to be the same show anymore, even with Maggie and Remmy's presence. I hope author Brad Linaweaver will write other excellent novels featuring the original cast. And just because Arturo died in one world, it doesn't mean he has to be dead in all worlds. Think about it. ;-)

This book captures the magic of the first two episodes. It is very unusual that a book and a TV series are almost identical. Little know facts that appeared on TV as a blur can be reviewed at length. Hats off to the author and let there be a Season six!

How can I put it...well this novel is GREAT! I am a fan of the TV show but hadn't seen the pilot episode, which this book is based on so I bought the book and WOW! The author still is in his early days but the book made your heart pound every second. A must read for fans of the TV show and sci-fi fans alike. Can't wait for the sequel!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Sliders -- Best of all worlds!, March 3, 1997

This review is from: Sliders: The Novel (Paperback)
Although, occasionally, the author writes the wrong name of a character in the sentences he is using (Example: using Quinn's name when he should have used Arturo's), the book itself is quite a find. It's interesting, hurmorous, spellbinding, and keeps you from wanting the story to end. Best of all, despite the numerous differences, it can't help but bring to mind Richard Bach's "ONE". Thumbs up all around for this gem

4.0 out of 5 stars Not literature, but still a decent read..., March 2, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: Sliders: The Novel (Paperback)
I like the TV show, but never saw the pilot episode, upon which this book is based. Brad Linaweaver sprinkled all sorts of libertarian ideas through the book, which made the book much more interesting than if he had just rehashed the script and done nothing else. Most of these references are quite subtle, and it is likely that many readers (and probably the publishers/editors) failed to pick up on them. The plot, of course, concerns the quartet of interdimensional travelers featured at 8:00 PM on Friday nights on Fox. In this book, the Sliders land on an earth where history diverged from what we know and the Soviets control America

3.0 out of 5 stars Watch the TV Show Instead, September 9, 2011

Judah (Terre Haute In USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sliders: The Novel (Paperback)
This is perhaps the first time I like a TV show *more* than the novelization. This book covers the entire first two episodes, nearly scene for scene and word perfect. The problem is the author decided to insert additional emotional angst, which thankfully the TV show minimized or skipped.

Like for example, the main character has a loving mother who supports him and he invents this weird new scientific effect when trying for anti-gravity. What does he do in the book? Agonizes over personally stepping through it, even though he won't put his cat through it, and he specifically thinks 'losing me in addition to Dad would kill Mom'. For a supposed genius, how hard would it be to connect the dots here and build his own hard-shielded tinkertoy for rift exploration? Too hard.

That's the reason I prefer the TV show; while I might not agree with the choices of characters, it makes them far less awkward and silly. Reading how the characters are thinking about *NOT* making a dumb decision makes the characters look stupider when they go with the dumb decision anyway.

As for what happened with that strange rift? Picture my hand pointing at the title of the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sliders: The Novel, A True American Classic, February 10, 2011

This review is from: Sliders: The Novel (Paperback)
Moby Dick and Oliver Twist step aside, a new literary marvel is on the scene. Sliders: The Novel is based on the first episode of the hit Fox TV show Sliders. The book does a fantastic job summarizing the episode and does a great job of delving into the characters' thoughts and giving you more of an insight to what they thought and felt during the episode. The book also reveals much more about what the Sliders went through as they were in this world that the episode just didn't have time to cover. This is a great book based on a great show and a must have in any Sliders fan's collection.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good sci-fi novel, September 20, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Sliders: The Novel (Paperback)
This is a good adaptation of the pilot episode of Sliders. It's very close to the original script with little deviation from what was shown on television. Certainly it's well worth reading for the story if you are a Sliders fan. The book would have been much improved if only a better edition would have been printed with pictures from the pilot episode, information about the cast, and how the show was created. It's nice to have an ordinary paperback, but a book that is more of a keepsake of the memories we have of this great TV show would have been much better.

3.0 out of 5 stars Seen the pilot? Then don't read the book., January 21, 2008

This review is from: Sliders: The Novel (Paperback)
This is a near verbatim written version of the events of the pilot episode. If you missed the pilot then you'll enjoy finding out the origins of the Sliders story. However, if you've seen the pilot then don't bother reading this; the only thing new that you'll learn is that Arturo gets turned on when Wade falls on him, something that I'd rather not have known.
