This Is a great product for keeping all my DVD's and Blu-Ray's Organized. It was relatively simple to put together. It is your normal piece together furniture with dowel pins, turn locks and few screws. If you are familiar with with putting things together like this it should be no problem. It took about an hour and a half to get fully assembled and make any adjustments in the small space I had to work with. The directions had no written instructions just pictures, which other people have also commented on. once it is together it is a very sturdy piece. It does however sit better on a solid floor rather than one that is carpeted (Might depend on how much padding under the carpet and type).

Only thing I was not happy with is that the entire thing requires assembly there are no parts pre-assembled. When installing the wheels and the upper sliding door pins to the door you will notice it only has 2 holes pre-drilled for each out of 4 holes. You can force the self tapping screws in the ones without holes but it usually will not go in straight. My recommendation is to drill a small hole after securing it with the first 2 screws. The glass panes also have to be installed as well. They supply you with a small screwdriver for this but that is it.

Overall once it is together it is very nice. If you use it for DVD's or Blu-rays like I did you will end up with a bunch of extra shelf pins and I believe 6 extra shelves. What I did and it worked out nice is put 2 shelves stacked on each other at the very bottom (Base of the cabinet) on both sides. This allows me to be able to read the full spine description of my movies through the glass in the door. Also I only have 2 shelves extra to store somewhere.

Addition: This is so great I bought a second one!

I bought this unit around 2004-2005. The design is simple, but the pull handles have an up to date modern quality. They look like brushed metal. In Walnut, it is easily a Transitional piece and fits very nicely with my eclectic, but definitely trending toward traditional, furniture. The unit tucks in a back corner of my living room and isn't overwhelming in size. It helps that it is only 9.5 inches deep. With sliding doors it doesn't need a lot of clearance in front of it the way a swing door would.

At the time I purchased it I had 500+ CDs. It comes with enough shelves to have all 700 CDs fill the unit. Mine will be filled probably in 2014 and I'm out looking for a 36-38 inch wide replacement. Sadly Leslie Dame only sells a single, double (this one) triple and quad unit. I need something between the double and triple widths. The design is perfect. A center divider strengthens the unit. The doors slide perfectly and are measured to slide out of the way. There is no overlap, so you don't end up with that awkward space in the center where you can't get to a CD or two because the sliding doors are in front of them. I find the unit is well balanced, and I have never feared, or been given any reason to think the unit would tip forward. I also have some decorative items on top of the unit.

It is absolutely sturdy and the doors do lift and pop out easy. I've done this when I'm sliding the CDs around to balance them and alphabetize new additions.

I'd buy an new Leslie Dame piece in a heartbeat

I bought two of these units to hold paperback books (and smaller hardback books). This cabinet looks fantastic when assembled.

1) This does NOT look like the typical fake wood. It has a hardwood covering so it looks like it is completely made of actual hardwood. It is very sturdy. This looks more like something you would get at a nicer furniture store or perhaps from Pottery Barn.

2) It is very simple to put together. I had this out of the box, put together, and everything cleaned up within an hour and a half, working by myself. It comes with all of the pieces and a small screwdriver to be used when putting in the glass panels- you need a normal screwdriver to do the rest. The instructions are very basic pictures, no real text, but it is so easy to figure out it is not a problem.

3) The packaging from this seller is amazing. It arrived looking quite beaten up, but it is double boxed and very well packaged. No damage to one of the units in any way (more on this later).

4) This is sold as a cabinet for dvds and cds. However, after doing some measuring, I purchased it to hold paperback books and smaller hardback books. It is the perfect size. Normal bookshelves are much too deep for these smaller books and you end up with a lot of wasted space on the shelf. I wanted a more shallow unit for the hallway upstairs and this is perfect.

5) The front doors do make the unit slightly heavier toward the front, but if you put larger/heavier items or the leftover shelves in the bottom of the unit there is no danger of it tipping over during normal use. I had 8 shelves left over for each unit, so I stacked 4 shelves in the bottom of each side. It raises my books up higher so I can see them easier and helps with the stability of the unit.
