5.0 out of 5 stars Jebediah's brilliant debut
Fresh, original, exciting...were just some of the adjectives the music press gushed that fateful day in 1997. I can't say so much for my own experience with Jebediah. I was introduced to them (save radio-play of 'Leaving Home) when I bought their self-titled third album a couple of years ago. It was different and I really took a liking to it. 2.0 out of 5 stars painfully annoying.
although this cd has recieved its fair share share of radio air-space, it is still poor. I am always stunned at how people can put up with the vocals, the blokes voice is hideous. The band is also poor live. All in all a sub standard cd and generally over rated.

Further 'investigation' saw me buying all the rest of their albums and I must say I really became a big fan. Btw they are awesome live if you get the chance.

Slightly Odway still stands as their best album to date. It was bold, experimental yet decidedly pop, brimming with youthful exuberance at every turn. Beginning with the upbeat rock-pop 'Leaving Home', to the fresh (but decidedly young sounding) Benedict, the album really exploded with Puckdefender, Teflon and Military Strongmen. Although in my opinion, Harpoon is the best song in the album.

If you're a fan of true grass roots Aussie indie rock than check out Jebediah. If you like this album, get the others because each has a different sound.

5.0 out of 5 stars Jebediah are the best!, March 5, 2000

Jebediah are just the best! I hadn't really heard much of them when a friend asked me to go to a concert, but I went along anyway. I'm so glad I did, they have such a unique sound that I love so much, the lead singer has a really weird, but a great voice that really works well with the music. I really love "Leaving Home", "Animal", and... (too many others to mention). If you haven't bought the CD yet then you really have to, NOW! You won't be disappointed!

5.0 out of 5 stars Original, February 25, 2000
I first heard Jebediah last summer when I was in Brisbane on vacation (Be it known that I am from the States). I bought the Triple J's Hottest 100 CD with "Leaving Home" on it and fell in love with that song. I then went out and bought the album (via Amazon.com) after I returned home. I have been listening to this album non-stop since I first got it. I can't believe that no one in the States has really heard Jebediah; they're phenomenal. The lead singer has such a great vocal technique. DAMN it is awesome- like everything in Australia! Good onya!

5.0 out of 5 stars Alternatively Brilliant!!!, May 21, 1999

Although well known and loved for thier live performances, Jebediah have out done themselves with Slightly Odway. The album is worth buying just to hear "Leaving Home", but when it's supported with such tracks as "Harpoon", "Teflon", "Jerks of Attention" and "Militiary Strongmen", it makes it a must have!!

This is a very good album, mainly because it contains harpoon (the best Australian song of all time). Military Strongmen, Benedict and Invaders are also great songs.

Everything about this Album is Great, There are Multiple Songs which are Awesome and the rest are still up there with other Big Hits. Jebediah are as good live as they are recorded, I think the Lead Singers Voice is Different in a Good way. I love this Australian Band. I can't think of anything negative to say about this Album. Buy it!

5.0 out of 5 stars This CD rules!, February 3, 1999
By A Customer
Slightly Odway is one of those rare albums that doesn't just have one good song that's played constantly on the radio with some awful rubbish thrown on to pad it out to an hour. Just about every track on this CD is a classic. And even better is that Jebediah are even more awesome live! Get this CD, its brilliant.

5.0 out of 5 stars Top notch Aussie rock., January 16, 1999
By A Customer
On a recent trip to Australia, I heard Jebediah's "Leaving Home" on the radio and totally dug the song. I picked up "Slightly Odway" before I left and damn, am I satisfied! This album is incredible. It's one of those albums that you can listen to the whole way through but there are definitely some tracks that stand head and shoulders above the rest. Try "Military Strongmen", "Harpoon", "Puckdefender" and the aforementioned "Leaving Home". Not worth the expenses of a trip to Australia to pick up this CD, but close! Rock on Jebediah!
