Product Description

Using a "Tri-Titanium" aerospace alloy compromised of aluminum, magnesium, and titanium, the Slik 700DX Pro Tripod Legs has a strength-to-weight ratio 40% greater than comparable tripods in its class. It is a very professional unit whether you're concerned with strength, fit and finish, or refinement of operation. The rapid-type center column cannot rotate accidentally, and the lever locks work securely with a minimum of movement. The 700DX has foam-padded upper segments to ease carrying on your shoulder and working in the cold, and its simple angled rubber leg tips give a firm footing while also allowing you to carry it upon some aircraft.

I highly recommend this unit for the serious photographer.
Robert A. Dunn, Ph.D.
The tripod weight is a little heavy, but the weight and girth is what provides the stability I was expecting.
Tom Schmuki
This tripod looks great, feels great, is very sturdy, and was an amazing value.

You really have to feel this to appreciate it side by side with an equiv by other makers. You are buying a tripod for its rigidity and this SLIK feels more solid than its colleagues. Maybe the leg hinges are a little stiff, adding to this feel, and it is no featherweight traveler. I use it for a MF Mamiya with big lens, mirror shake and it sits like a rock on the SLIK. The feel of quality. Why pay more for a name? Give me the AMT. The levers are a pleasure, prefer them greatly over twistlocks. Recommended.

I bought this tripod along with a Manfrotto 501HDV Video head. The tripod is solid but a little bit heavy. The Manfrotto tripods come with set screws to keep the Manfrotto heads from unscrewing from the tripod, which this tripod did not have. Had I known about this feature I would have bought the Manfrotto tripod. Not a big deal but the head keeps coming loose. I will probably glue it.

The tripod that I had previous to this was a an old half-broken cheap Velbon Victory that someone gave me for free, so as you can imagine the 700DX is a major upgrade that I'm quite happy with. I bought this for use with a Marumi TB-12 Arca Compatible Ball Head which I selected based on price, quality, and Arca QR plate compatibility, and it seems to be a solid combination with these legs.

I wish I could compare the legs with ones from other manufacturers at a similar price point, but I'm lacking any experience with those. In any case, this thing is rock solid and gets high marks from everything I've read, and the fact that you can lock the legs into three different positions for various heights is extremely handy. Reversing the center column works quite well, and with a 40mm lens on my 1.5x crop factor D7000 I can extend the legs all the way, reverse the column, slide it to the highest position, point the camera straight down with the legs fully extended in the highest position, and not have any of the legs visible in the frame. So this thing is great for "straight down" angles for copy work or what have you. And for wider angles I'm guessing that locking the legs into the middle position will keep them out of the frame.

My only complaint is that the feet don't have spikes, and it seems like there's no option to add spiked feet that I can find. So far I haven't run into any situations that would benefit from spiked feet though, so i can't really say how much of a problem this might be for me.

I needed a stronger, more stable tripod to go with my Photek horizontal bar. My previous tripod (Dolica) had really been a workhorse for me for nearly 3 years however since I had purchased my bat last year the Dolica just was not strong enough. I did not need a ball head as I already had a Vanguard SB-250 so I only purchased the legs. Love it! Very strong tripod (rated to hold 22lbs). I carry it most everywhere I go as I shoot 80% of my photography tripod based. The stability brings confidence that even in windy conditions I will get the shot I want. You can buy more expensive tripods and carbon fiber units that are lighter however I doubt they are more stable. I can't see any reason I won't be using this tripod ten years from now.

I am very pleased with this set of sticks. I also have the smaller Slik Sprint II, which is a great, compact travel tripod, but I didn't think it looked very professional for regular work and it just didn't have enough weight. This tripod looks great, feels great, is very sturdy, and was an amazing value. It also included a carrying bag which fits the tripod even with the Slik AF2100 Pistol Grip Head attached!

Very satisfied. The tripod is very stable and strong and light enough for me that it is not an intrusion to carry. I topped it with a Manfrotto 496RC2 ball head, and the two complement each other perfectly, making a very stable shooting platform. I am 5'10" and with my Nikon D90 with battery pack/vertical grip attached, I can operate while fully standing without having to extend the center post. In fact, the center post is made of two sections which unscrew in the center to allow the center post to be removed and inverted. The tripod is high enough without the center post elevated that I permanently removed one half of the post to reduce a little weight. I would definitely recommend this tripod and would purchase another in a heartbeat. The only slightly negative comment is that it is only equipped with rubber feet, and does not have retractable spikes. However, this was well defined in the listing, and was not a surprise on recipt - just a possible suggestion for improvement.
