Product Description

From the Manufacturer
The award winning U 212 DX is world-renowned designing that has carefully evolved for more than 20 years. Designed primarily for light weight 35mm SLR cameras or compact film and digital cameras, it features a number of exciting design concepts that were born with the original U 212 and have been copied into other tripods world-wide.

The U212 deluxe was one of the first tripods to feature speed release leg locks on three-section "NON-TWIST" squared legs that will not turn and have retractable rubber leg tips and spikes for sure footing on any surface.

The quick release camera post is smaller than most quick release plates and can be left on the camera almost all the time, so the camera is always ready to be mounted on the U-212 DX’s ultra-smooth 3-way pan-head. The head has a lens calibrated panorama guide to make 360 &Mac176; panoramas from multiple pictures. A geared center column makes fine height adjustments easy.

A threaded mounting post on one leg lets you bring the camera down to just 8 inches (200 mm) from the ground for low angle photos, macro photography in the field, or copy work. The head also includes a bubble level for accurate vertical positioning.

Specifications:

  • Maximum Operating Height: 63.5 in. / 1,615 mm
  • Minimum Operating Height: 8.25 in. / 210 mm
  • Maximum Center Column Extension: 10.6 in. / 270 mm
  • Folded Length: 26.0 in. / 660 mm
  • Weight: 5.6 lbs. / 2,560 grams
  • Number of Leg Sections: 3
  • Leg Lock Type: Speed Release Lock
  • Maximum Load: 5.5 lbs. / 2,500 grams

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Quality and versatility., November 9, 2005
I love everything about my Slik tripod. If you've read any of my other reviews, I'm a stickler for quality materials and workmanship, especially with my gadgetry. Slik doesn't slack off in either department.

It has a very nice finish, smooth handling with the legs and vertical position crank. All locking mechanisms feel solid and haven't ever broken loose on me. I've loaded up my fairly heavy video camera, P&S digital, and my Canon EOS 20D and it handles it all with aplomb.

The feet have adjustable points for rough ground and hold their place well on dirt, rock, and man-made surfaces. The included head is of decent quality and though I use my Slik Pistol grip for the most part, it makes horizontal and vertical work simpler and has an easier mount.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best bang for money, November 18, 2004
This is a very solid and versatile tripod for the money. I used it for about 6 months and later sold it to buy heavier Bogen tripod. Ever since I am repenting on my dscision. This tripod is lightweisght (compared to Bogen) yet stable enough agains high wind and a 70-300 zoom lens with a medium size SLR body. The detachable pan/til head can be used for low angle macro shots and the legs can be set at any preferred angle. Only gripe is the quick release system, it can be better, but for 95 bucks I can not expect any more than the bundle.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great bang for the buck, April 28, 2005
By Matthew E. Hyner (West Palm Beach, FL) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Well I had my issues with this tripod and finally had to upgrade to a bogan but I got my use out of it. It's a great tripod for what it is, read its specifications and realize you can't exceed them and you'll do fine. When I started with it I was using an elan iie and some cheap light tamron lenses and it was a beauty to work with. Lightweight and sturdy. After beating it up for two years, upgrading to a 20D and slapping on a big honken sigma 170-500 lense I finally began to push its limmits and the tripod became too shakey for my camera. But now things were weighing a good 5 pounds which is on the verge of a no no according to the specs.

That said it's a great tripod, sturdy within its specified wieght tolerance...spiked feet are nice, flip locks are easy to open and close compared to the bogen and it's pretty stable. Whats also nice is you CAN change the head on such a cheap tripod so you can go with a ball head or something else.

Well I guess that's about all I have to say. Enjoy!
