Sacred, sardonic, and terrifying,
By Scott Martinez (Bronx, New York) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Slim Cessna's Auto Club (Audio CD)
With elements of Eastern European Folk, Western Honkey Tonk, Baroque Fugue, and Rockabilly, Slim's synthasis is by far and away the most original sound I've heard in '01. While thier true precursor is undoubtably The Doors, there is a presence of a violent and ironic christianity in the lyrics which is certainly informed by early country-western titans like Johnny Cash and Kris Kristopherson. I suspect that they are part of a larger scene emerging in the Denver-Boulder area, and I'm on thorns to see what it will produce next.
