1.0 out of 5 stars Curdled!
I am so disappointed. I ordered a box of slim fast from Amazon and the can have curdled milk inside. I know that it is summer and that it is hot outside, but there has to be some kind of cooling system for products like these! I am sooooo disappointed, Amazon.

Trans Fat: 0g - 0g
Cholesterol: 5mg - 15mg

Total Carbohydrate: 5g - 6g
Dietary Fiber: 3g - 4g
Sugars: 1g - 1g
"Net Carbs:" 2g - 2g
Protein: 21g - 20g

The vitamins/minerals are somewhat similar in these two drinks and can be found on the Nutrition Facts on the cans. The biggest difference is that Slim Fast Low Carb has about 73% more calories and 70 more Fat calories per drink.

The taste, which I was concerned about when I order my first case of 24 drinks, is similar with the main difference that the Slim Fast Low Carb has a smoother, creamier texture. I experimented with adding about 80 calories of cream to a ZOIC drink and it definitely acquired a smoother, creamier texture. The overall taste of both drinks, in my opinion, is a good taste; but not a great taste. I would give these products a 4.5 rating if I could.

The Slim Fast Low Carb drink with its extra 70 more calories from Fat seems to satisfy my hunger perhaps 30 minutes longer than the ZOIC drink (without any cream added). ZOIC's package states "meal complement & snack replacement" not a meal replacement; in other words, it seems logical that one would add a small portion of other healthful food to make it a meal.

Both drinks refrain from adding any sugar or sugar alcohols (make sure you are comparing Slim Fast "Low Carb" and not other Slim Fast drinks which do have sugar added). Both drinks are free from Trans Fat.

I like to use both drinks to give me variety in taste and calories. The ZOIC drink at only 110 calories is a good choice when I want less calories and less fat calories; perhaps, when a planned meal time has to be pushed back in time by a couple of hours. If I need something to skip a meal, then I will usually choose Slim Fast Low Carb.

Both of these "Low Carb" drinks are good to have on hand in the refrigerator, so you can choose 110 or 190 calories versus some other super-sized 500 plus calorie item that may be in the refrigerator too.

This shake tastes better than any other low carb shake I have tried; it's smooth and creamy and sweet. I've tried Atkins (expensive and not very sweet) and ESA shakes (thin and not very sweet) and I prefer this product. Unfortunately, Amazon is the ONLY place I can find these so when they run out I'm screwed. I don't understand why this product is so hard to find especially since it is infinately better than it's competition.

I love this product and have it on auto-ship from Amazon. However, I've received only one shipment of this product, ever. Amazon has cancelled EVERY SINGLE ORDER due to product shortage. So, I love the product but hate the fact that Amazon can never seem to get it to me.

If you're seriously going to go on a diet, get this "Low Carb" version of Slim Fast. It works the best (only 2 net carbs vs 20 carbs in the regular cans. I've lost 24 lbs so far in 30 days by doing the "shake for breakfast, shake for lunch, and a light dinner" (and very little exercise). The price is okay. I really like the creamy chocolate flavor best of all the flavors offered.

5.0 out of 5 stars Delicious Warm, August 4, 2008

I am following the Cyclic Ketogenic Diet, and these things are heavenly. I can pack my lunch in 10 seconds!

I was serving these over ice and cold. But the secret is to drink them warm. They are sooo delicious. These are not thin and actually do satisfy your hunger.

I just drank one and I have been using them for about 8 weeks now. I am still amazed at just how good they taste.

If you're worried about the sucralose, don't be. As long as the rest of you diet is okay then you do not need to worry about the little bit of splenda that is in it. I have been able to stay in great ketosis during the week. You may want to add some flax seed oil to up the fat intake a little. I have been using these to bring me down from 226 to 189 pounds and going. THey dont cause stalls, at least for me.

These shakes are much better than the Adkins shakes. They have more of a chocolate flavor, and better texture.

5.0 out of 5 stars I have found a way to make these taste better!, May 2, 2008

I liked these because the carbs are so low. I sometimes overindulge over the holidays or vacations and a low carb few weeks can get me back on track fast! However, these taste funny to me. They have an odd smell and aftertaste. I even tried freezing them. Still blech. I bought a pack of 24 of these, so I had to figure out something!

SO I tried adding a pinch of salt, about 1/2 tsp. cinnamon, and nearly a tsp. of vanilla to a can. It is actually pretty good!

First, freeze the can until solid. Open the can with a can opener from the bottom and dump it in a big measuring cup. Then smoosh it in with a blender until it is like a Frosty from Wendy's. (You may have to microwave it for a minute or two to make it soft enough to blend.) Then add the salt, vanilla, and cinnamon.

The vanilla helps mask the aftertaste, while the cinnamon helps with the smell (but doesn't add carbs.) Akins people, you could even add a little heavy cream for texture. South Beach? Maybe skim milk.

Next, I am trying some mint oil instead of vanilla/cinnamon (after I buy some!) as this seems like it would also work. Mint chocolate milkshake? that sounds good on a diet!

I eat it with a spoon. I still can't eat the whole can at a time, but it is good when you are craving something sweet (besides sugar free jello!)

I hope this recipe helps some of you who may not like the taste of these!

5.0 out of 5 stars Give it TIME, August 12, 2009

First thing anyone should know (or at least picky eaters like myself) is that the taste may take some getting used to, not in the bad diet "snack bars" that you have to pretend don't taste like wax, but with a cardboard texture, but in a much more subtle way.

I was scared when I drank the first one-- brought into the house by my super-no-carb-dieting father. He said it tasted like a good ice cream shake. (Nope, sorry). But his assessments had been way off (like the "chocolate" Atkins bars--see above description).

The first one did not taste like a chocolate shake. Never will. But surprisingly, it did taste a lot like chocolate jello pudding, but a little waterier (taste not texture). Not bad, but not my favorite. I made the commitment there to drink all 4 cans, in one week. Each can tasted better. Much better. By can 3, I was hooked, and it became my breakfast replacement (technically I never ate breakfast, very sporadically, so this was a good metabolism-boost too!). Sometimes I'd want one just to wash dinner down with. I really liked them, not just needed them as part of a diet.

One think I learned though: don't drink warm/room temperature. The thickness of the drink becomes all you can taste... Best over a cup FULL of ice cubes or ice cold in the can (with a straw, or else the tin can taste overpowered the yummy, to me).

I did the same 4 can challenge with the vanilla flavor (twice) and it always tasted like melted ice cream, overpoweringly sweet, to me. Again as I disclaimed above, I'm picky.

A word about those complaining about 80 calories fat. it's not a bad thing. It keeps you fuller, adds the calories you need for energy, and is not a big deal in the grand scheme of your diet. It's not even close to your daily total amount. In fact, it's a total of only 9 grams in this drink. In fact, it's about 1.5 hardboiled eggs worth of fat. Plus, it's not like you're drinking whale blubber.

A good foundation for any dieter, in my opinion and my (week-day)daily breakfast.

P.S> I'm not paid, and not affiliated with FitDay, but they have an awesome free online diet journal, and the downloadable version is even better. a MUST for smart dieters!

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm type 2., May 14, 2008
This review is from: Slim-Fast Low-Carb Ready To Drink, Creamy Chocolate, 11-Ounce Cans in 4-Count Boxes (Pack of 6) (Health and Beauty)
I am a type 2 diabetic and wanted to something easy I could have as a snack or for lunch. I found that I was stressing so much over what I was going to have for lunch that would fit into my new life style change, I was getting overly hungry and then get a blood sugar spike from not eating. I tried the Atkins shakes, and they weren't taht great, but did the trick. But the sugar alcohols gave me gas. I heard about the low car slim fast but couldn't find them. Finally I found them at the Navy Exchange, and I love them.
